EVE Valkyrie's upcoming patch introduces fresh mechanics and maps via Wormholes

EVE Valkyrie is getting an enormous patch next week on February 15th. Dubbed Wormholes, it's got wormholes. Story over. Just kidding. Wormholes are familiar entities to EVE universe players; in Valkyrie, they will open for a few days and allow players to jump in and play something totally new, be it "a modified game mode, unusual environments, special upgrades, [or] new visuals." As a nice perk for taking part in these side missions, players will be assigned pre-determined ship loadouts, so even newbies can give wormhole content a go.

The patch also introduces competitive play via a new league system, PS4 flight stick support, improved com alerts, tweaks to the newbie experience, help for folks who suffer from dizziness during certain encounters, progression experience balancing, and a whole bunch of other stuff you can scope out on the official site and in the new video below.

EVE: Valkyrie offers doubled experience for its first anniversary

March 29, 2017 One comment

Did you think that EVE: Valkyrie had been out for a whole year? Before you saw the headline, that is. Actually, perhaps you did anyway, perhaps the game is one of your favorite titles. If that's the case, you'll be happy to know that its first anniversary celebration offers doubled experience for every player for each mission flown for an entire week.

The event ends on April 4th, but you should have time to fly plenty of missions between now and then. Whether it's a welcome addition to a game you still play regularly or an excuse to dust off a VR headset and play once more will depend on your personal preferences.Read more

First-person spaceship shooter goes fully cross-platform.

CCP Games has announced a free “Warzone” expansion coming to EVE: Valkyrieon September 26 that enables both the ability to play without a virtual reality headset, and cross-platform play between PlayStation 4 and PC.

EVE: Valkyrie – Warzone will replace the base game. While all current users will receive the game as a free download, it can be purchased by new players for $29.99.

The expansion will also include:

  • Ship Improvements – Each ship within a class will have a more distinctive role to play in battle and all ships will be available from the first time a pilot enters the Clone Vat. This new, open hangar will allow pilots to experiment and find the ships that best fit their playstyle within a few matches.
  • New Weapons and Ultra Abilities – There will be new weapons and abilities to inflict upon each other, including powerful ship-specific Ultra abilities that, when timed correctly, can turn the course of battle. Ultras facilitate a deeper combat experience, being fueled by the performance of you and your team.
  • Modular Progression System – Pilots will be able to explore a new modular progression system that introduces multiple new modifications for each ship. With unique abilities and meaningful upgrade paths for each ship, you’ll have more control over how you evolve and customise your fleet.
  • “Extraction” Game Mode – A “Capture the Flag”-esque game mode that mixes combat and navigational challenge in new and exciting ways, encouraging pilots to use the environment to their advantage. Most importantly though, it makes team-play – and team-tactics – a key component of success.
  • Two new maps
    • “Fleet” – A Sisters of EVE space station.
    • “Outpost” – A mysterious Drifter base.
  • New Wormholes – Each week there will be new wormholes to fight for, where reality will twist to offer a unique gaming experience.
  • New Rewards System – In Warzone, we’ve simplified EVE: Valkyrie’s previously complex in-game economy with the removal of Gold and the reduction of surplus Silver. You’ll earn XP per ship and use only XP to craft a Modification for that ship, which is far easier to follow. Salvage picked up during a battle by you or your team now has a more immediate effect by fuelling your ship’s Ultra gauge. You can also fight over Spoils of War to earn Reward Capsules, enabling you to unlock a hangar-full of personalization options for your ships and pilot. Each item rewarded is categorised as Common, Rare or Epic to convey its sense of worth and desirability, plus a random element ensures that the content of each capsule remains a surprise.

“EVE: Valkyrie – Warzone includes all the content and improvements released for EVE: Valkyrie since launch while dramatically enhancing the experience for new and current players alike. It introduces a next-generation fleet of iconic ships – including the new Covert class ship, ‘Shadow’ – each one with their own distinctive role to play in battle. CCP Games ceases VR development, closes two studios – no negative impact on EVE Online

Icelandic business website mbl.is has just reported that EVE Online developer CCP Games is planning to close two of its offices and cease all VR game development. The move affects over 100 staff worldwide, with the Atlanta office in the United States being closed and the Newcastle studio being sold off.

The Newcastle office was the development house responsible for the VR dogfighter EVE: Valkyrie, which released as a bundled launch title for the Oculus Rift and has since been released on PlayStation VR and as a non-VR PC title.

The move will see CCP pull out of the VR market for the time being, Read more

So here’s what’s going on with EVE Valkyrie now that CCP’s downsized

Yesterday, MOP’s Brendan reported on the startling news that CCP Games, long known for its flagship MMORPG sandbox EVE Online and more recently known for its persistent probe into the virtual reality space, is closing down two of its studios, letting over 100 employees go, and essentially putting the kibosh on its plans in the VR market in the short term.

One of the substudios affected, the Newcastle studio now being sold off, was specifically focused on EVE Valkyrie, the VR dogfighter spun out of the EVE universe. But it doesn’t appear that game, which last month launched on Steam with apparently lukewarm reception from the PC crowd, is over. In fact, CCP is calling it “the beginning of a new chapter.”

“We can confidently confirm that EVE: Valkyrie – Warzone is not going away,” writes the company. “We love the game just as much as we love our players, Read more

EVE: Valkyrie gets a new map and spectator mode for the holidays

Happy holidays, EVE: Valkyrie fans! Enjoy a shiny box of… wait, why are you hyperventilating? This isn’t a shutdown notice. (Which, you know, was a logical thing to expect based on recent events. You might have good reason to be jumpy.) Stop. Take a deep breath. There’s an update. There is an actual patch. See, there’s even a video down below covering the features. The biggest addition is the new moon refinery map that’s letting you blow things up in the midst of a mining operation on a moon. Not Earth’s moona moon.

Do you need to sit down for a little while? Here, Read more
