Centurion

Goes straight-to-DVD/BD in Finland. It is at the Espoo Ciné International Film Festival later this month, so I might go and see it there.

^Surprised at that, its actually quite big budget for a Marshall movie as well I believe.

Yeah, me too. Because even Dog Soldiers got a very, very limited release in here. The Descent and Doomsday were wide.

I gotta ask though why is one of the roman centurions black just seems like a weird casting guy might be a good actor but doesn't really fit with the roman army maybe they will explain it I hope.

yeah...you didnt have to be italian to be a roman citizen. Who ever the armies conquered had an opportunity to become citizens (for the most part).

Strange, maybe they just couldnt find a distributer? But being an english movie you'd think they would in Europe.

It does have a distributor in Finland, the same one which distributed Dog Soldiers and Doomsday. I guess they just don't think this would do good business in the theaters. Anyway, from what I've heard it's not 100% sure yet. I think they might wanna use these festival screenings as a test ground.

Solomon Kane's fate is sealed tho. It is going stv 25 August.

:huh:I cant speak for Centurion yet, though the reviews suggest its pretty good, but Solomon Kane is a great flick, cant believe its going straight to BD/DVD there.

The film poster looks like a comic book cover, nice looking female character, narrow waist with a cleavage to make you blind with the male lead from back turning his head front ( I am not if this sentence is proper English ).

saw it. Good mid level budget flick. The kind that you'd rent on a whim with a free rental at the movie store back in the day.

I really liked this movie.

My only critique of it is: at the climax, there is a perfect moment for a 'Mad Mardigan' to be pulled (ie. they come across a fort, and it would have been awesome if the 3 remaining survivors in that group could have re armed) + I feel like the party hunting them should have grown for the final confrontation. Basically, give the movie a more epic conclusion. It's a good climax irregardless, and probably a little more 'realistic', but it would have been nice to have a bit of a 'larger' ending.

Still a solid flick, and better than any other classical (fantasy/historical)/medieval movie that's come out this year. Only other comment is that they could have used just a little more cash to fix up some of the FX, but it's hardly necessesary.

I could totally go for a sequel already.

you had the opportunity to become citizens through service, otherwise you were a provincial endentured servant... a step up from a classical era slave (that doesn't mean bad in anyway shape or form)

The reviews of this movie from critics aren't that great...but I watched it anyway on Steal-O-Vision, and thought it was a pretty rad, violent, fun movie. Not much in the way of story or character development, but it didn't really matter in a film like this...it did not go out of it's way to make either side look like heroes, that Olga chick was cool.

Screw it...a couple of pretty girls...bloody almost nonstop action...and cool scenery. Sometimes that is enough...especially when compared to garbage like Clash Of The Titans.

Pretty good movie. Not earth shattering, but it kept me entertained. Pretty gory, actually surprised there was no nudity not that it was needed but just surprised there was not lol. The acting imo was pretty good, the atmosphere was good I was actually surprised I got pulled into this movie as much as I did, before I knew it, it was done.

I say give it a watch, I wish more movies like this were made.

agreed. A simple and straight forward movie, that remains pleasing.

I was actually suprised there wasn't some nudity as well. But as you say, not needed at all.

I've rewatched a couple of times now, and it's just a good fun movie

Just watched this tonight, really good chase flick, some great a nd bloody violence, battles are great and the acting is of a high standard, especially from Fassbender, West, Cunningham, Poots (who has grown up to be quite stunning) and Kuryalenko, who is really bad ass in this, and does as the mute Pict.

Its Fassbenders show mainly though, and he doesnt dissapoint, he revels in it, and he really has you rooting for him in the movie. As a big X-Men fan, I cant wait to see what he does with the young Magneto role, 7.5/10.

Imogen Poots is the only reason to watch this film. POOOOOTSSSSSSSS!!!!!

^She has grown up to be absolutely stunning since V For Vendetta and 28 Weeks Later.

Hi,

It is an OK film on par with King Arthur with Clive Owen. The fights are nice and they were not cheap on blood and flesh cutting. Olga K is fine (her character is
mute
) but she doesn't look like her character in the drawing poster :)
My only "complain" is that she pouts too much ( "faire la moue" in French ).

I didn't recognize Imogen Poots from V for Vendetta but like others posters said, she is really nice looking.

What a disappointment.

That was the last Marshall movie I will ever watch. The guy is a hack, he's only "popular" because he makes weird movies for geeks.

Doomsday: 5/10
Centurion: 5.5/10

Yeah, he made "The Descent", I know :whatever:

I honestly can't see why people dislike this movie. The pacing, the tension, the characters, the acting, all great.

Me neither, its not fantastic and isnt a movie that will change the world but for a historical movie movie based on a legendary myth I thought it was a good piece of entertainment, and the cast was superb, as well as the cinematography.

Not as good as The Descent or Dog Soldiers, but better than Doomsday, which I personally enjoyed as well.

Thanks, I knew the name sound familiar ( 9th Legion ) but didn't remembered from what.
After reading the wiki link I searched on Imdb, I remember it from the Last Legion which is an average movie but watchable anyway.
