Bigelow and Boal Making Triple Frontier
Source: Variety August 9, 2009

The Hurt Locker director Kathryn Bigelow and writer Mark Boal are reteaming for Paramount action-adventure Triple Frontier, with Charles Roven (The Dark Knight), Alex Gartner and Steve Alexander producing through their Atlas Entertainment.

Variety says that the film is described as a high-stakes ensemble project. Boal and Bigelow, who will both executive produce, sold the original idea together; the logline is being kept under wraps.

Boal is writing the script, set in the notorious border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil where the Igazu and Parana rivers converge -- making "la triple frontera" difficult to monitor and a haven for organized crime

Oscar-winning "The Hurt Locker" director Kathryn Bigelow will shoot her next feature film project "Triple Frontier" next year in the troubled region reports The Playlist.
Argentinean press have linked Sean Penn, Javier Bardem and Denzel Washington for roles in the high-stakes ensemble project set in the notorious border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil where the Igazu and Parana rivers converge. The area has proven a haven for organized crime and terrorist funding activities.
However that trio is thought to be mere speculation based on a piece from The New York Times of actors who recently met with 'Locker' scribe Mark Boal about future projects. One of those projects of Boal's is 'Frontier'.
Charles Roven, Alex Gartner and Steve Alexander are set to produce the project for Paramount Pictures and Atlas Entertainment.

Sounds awesome. Looking forward to it. I'm always up for something like this.

Will Smith might be hitching himself to Oscar Winner Kathryn Bigelow’s “Triple Frontier.”

The film, written by Bigelow’s fellow “Hurt Locker” Oscar winning screenwriter Mark Boal takes place in South America near the border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil. The territory is infamous for its criminal underworld, given how tough it is to police.

Production for the Paramount feature should start in December or January.

Denzel Washington was previously attached to “Triple Frontier.” Bigelow has allegedly met with a number of critically acclaimed actors including Sean Penn, Javier Bardem and Christian Bale.

Smith’s last movie was the 2008 melodrama “Seven Pounds.” He is expected to star in “Men in Black III.”

Bigelow’s “Hurt Locker” won six Oscars – including Best Picture — and accumulated close to $50 million worldwide at the box office.

The setting is awesome for a crime thriller.

They'll probably shoot this film in either Mexico or Puerto Rico due to the nature of the subject. I don't know how they would make Mexico City or San Juan like Buenos Aires or Asuncion.

Sounds interesting. Hopefully Smith is in it

With Javier Bardem, I'm assuming that the easiest dilect for him to learn with spanish would the Argentinan accent. Isn't it the closest to the Spanish of Spain?

Tom Hanks may be planning a leading role in Triple Frontier, according to a post at Deadline.

The film, the follow-up from The Hurt Locker director and writer Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal, is an ensemble picture set in the notorious border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil where the Igazu and Parana rivers converge -- making "la triple frontera" difficult to monitor and a haven for organized crime.

August's alleged Paramount leak listed a number of names said to be contending for the five lead parts, though Hanks was not included in the grouping. The rumor at the time listed Christian Bale, Javier Bardem, Sean Penn and Will Smith.http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=70392#ixzz11XaUg2kK

Hanks in the movie? Why do I think "American diplomat type" for him if he does this movie?

Tom Hanks may be planning a leading role in Sleeping Dogs (formerly titled "Triple Frontier"), according to a post at Deadline.

Oh wow, if they got all five of those guys, it'd be like an A-List Expendables.

I hope Johnny does it but he also has Dark Shadow starting up too in Feb.

Jesus ****. Hopefully all of the actors in talks end up in the movie. That will be the best ensemble I've ever seen.

EXCLUSIVE: Tom Hanks Confirmed for Triple Frontier

Source: ComingSoon.net

Tom Hanks is the first official cast member to join Triple Frontier, producer Charles Roven confirmed to ComingSoon.net this morning in an exclusive interview.

"Tom Hanks is starring in the film," Roven said, "and we're still looking to cast the other roles. We're hoping to start shooting the movie sometime in mid-March."

Recent rumors had also suggested that Triple Frontier would be retitled to Sleeping Dogs. Though Roven did not speak specifically to the title change, he referred to the project by the former title.

Check back soon for the full interview, wherein Roven discusses his upcoming Season of the Witch as well as his major comic book adaptations, The Dark Knight Rises and Superman./news/movienews.php?id=72002#ixzz16lvHmtOK

I really hope Will Smith signs on for this. I mean Im sort of looking forward to MIB 3 (mostly just to see the gang back together) but Id like him to do something different

Smith, Hanks and Depp in the same film automatically means my ass in the seat.

Bigelow’s ‘Triple Frontier’ To Shoot In Early 2011, Producer Charles Roven Confirms

In an interview with Shock Til You Drop, producer Charles Roven (The Dark Knight, Batman Begins) confirms that The Hurt Locker Oscar-winner Kathryn Bigelow‘s hotly anticipated follow-up, Triple Frontier (also known as Sleeping Dogs), will be shooting earlier than originally reported, before the rumored black ops project Bigelow had planned.

“It’s a big, big, big project logistically in the sense that, if the production plan happens, it’s scheduled to shoot in a number of countries both down in South America and in North America. So yeah. That’s a really fantastic project and really exciting. Working with Kathryn and Mark Boal is really great. It’s a great, great script. We’ve been on a number of location scouts and Tom Hanks is starring in the film. We’re looking to cast the other roles. We’re hoping to be able to start shooting the movie sometime in mid-March or April. That’s what our goal is right now. But, like all movies, ‘till they’re up, they’re up. (Laughs) Until they’re shooting, they’re not shooting,” Roven said.

With Johnny Depp joining Tim Burton on their long-in-development adaptation of the TV show Dark Shadows early next year (and having confirmed his casting as Tonto in Gore Verbinski‘s The Long Ranger), his rumored involvement with the Mark Boal-scripted political thriller is unlikely. So far, only Tom Hanks has been confirmed as part of the cast. Sean Penn, Leonardo DiCaprio, Will Smith and Christian Bale have all been mentioned as possible additions to the cast, but with Bale suiting for The Dark Knight Rises (and then on to China to shoot Nanjing Heroes in the winter of ’11), we can likely count him out.

The title of Triple Frontier refers to the deadly drug trafficking zone (“la triple frontera”) between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil. There are no plot details yet, but with Hanks in the lead and the shoot date pushed to March or April rather than the fall of ’11, we’ll be seeing more inf

I'm assuming that Depp and Smith were/are running for the same role.

JC Chandor Circling Hot-Button Drama ‘Triple Frontier’

EXCLUSIVE: I’m hearing that Margin Call and A Most Violent Year helmer JC Chandor is in early discussions to direct Triple Frontier, that hot-button drama for Paramount Pictures that grew quiet when Zero Dark Thirty helmer Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal stepped away to focus on the movie about Bowe Bergdahl, the U.S. soldier who left a base in Afghanistan and was captured and held for five years by the Taliban until he was exchanged for five high-level Taliban fighters.

Last we checked on Triple Frontier, both Tom Hanks and Will Smith were circling, and that’s believed to still be the case. The plot has been closely guarded on this one but the film, also known as Sleeping Dogs, is set in the organized crime haven that exists in the border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil. It has five main roles. Charles Roven is producing through his Atlas Entertainment.

Given the frivolity we are seeing in the silly summer season, both Triple Frontier and the Bergdahl films sound worthy and hats off to the filmmakers for continuing to press forward when it is such an uphill battle. Chandor, who has been looking for a picture after exiting Lionsgate’s Deepwater Horizon, is repped by CAA.
