Chris Hemsworth is set to star in Subversion, a submarine action flick coming together at Amazon MGM Studios, with Patrick Vollrath (7500) directing from a script by Andrew Ferguson, and Di Bonaventura Pictures producing, Deadline has confirmed.

The film follows a once-promising Naval commander (Chris Hemsworth) who is blackmailed by a cartel-like operation into piloting a dangerous submarine carrying illegal cargo across international waters, thrusting him into a high-stakes game of cat and mouse, outmaneuvering blockades, and navigating perilous threats both in and outside of the submarine

Unless it's destined for Prime Video, I smell another underperformer.

Sounds like a good streamer for a Friday night.

It would be nice if this ended up being half decent. So far the best thing about this is the cast because the director and writer seem to be sort of a unknown quantity.

Simone Kessell, Robert John Burke and David Wenham have joined the cast of director Patrick Vollrath’s forthcoming feature, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned. They join previously announced castmembers Hemsworth, Lily James and Michael Peña.

Subversion centers on a formerly respected naval commander (Hemsworth) who is blackmailed into piloting a submarine loaded with illegal cargo across international waters. Adding to the conflict is a Coast Guard officer (James) in hot pursuit of the vessel.

This is being produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, with essentially a first time writer and director. Maybe I'm just being cynical, but I can't imagine a world where this ends up being good. Hemsworth doesn't have the best track record when it comes to projects, either.
