Chris Hemsworth Stars "In The Heart Of The Sea"

Yeah right about now the studio execs are kicking themselves for not leaving it in March. Star Wars is going to drown it this weekend.

Saw it opening day with the lady. Neither of us were impressed, I'd describe it as vanilla and uninspired, but Tom Holland did a good job.
Correct me if I'm wrong but WB hasn't had a great year, have they?

It shows that Hemsworth can't lead a movie on his name alone outside of the Thor franchise, but it didn't help that Black Hat and this movie are terrible. With Rush he had Daniel Bruhl. With Snow White & the Huntsman he had Charlize Theron.

WB started off well with American Sniper and Mad Max. But overall they've had a dismal year with their blockbuster movies. Next year will be better.

Yeah Aside From American Sniper San Andreas and Mad Max those are the only films this year that has made over 100 million dollars.

And people were laughing at Sony earlier in the year.

WB had a bad year, but it was their first year without a release in a major franchise since Harry Potter (the main story), The Dark Knight trilogy and The Hobbit trilogy all ran their courses. They'll bounce back in a big way next year with Batman v. Superman, Suicide Squad, and Fantastic Beasts.

Does American Sniper even count? It was released in 2014.

I could be proven wrong but the Point Break remake that cost over $100 million looks like another flop for WB.

So far Jupiter Ascending, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., Pan, Hot Pursuit, Run All Night, Our Brand Is Crisis, *We Are Your Friends, this, and Entourage (who the hell green lit that?!) all bit it hard.

*:nuhu:

We Are Your Friends cost $2 million to make and made back over 6 in return. No one gave a s*** about it, but I don't think that was a huge loss for them.

Yeah I don't get why people talk about We Are Your Friends like WB lost 100mil on it. I mean their year is terrible enough, we don't need to exaggerate.

Huge bombs like Pan and the like were the problem not WAYF.

Anyway it's obvious that it's WB time to fail. Universal was in the same position just a little while ago, it's cyclical thing. They will eventually dig out of flopsvile.

Seeing Thor being the Marvel franchise with the least oomph, Blackhat failing completely, Rush being nothing to write home about and now this... is it time for Hollywood to reconsider Hemsworth as a leading man? He's charming and likable and hot, but something just isn't working here. Maybe this is why he's being put in comedy roles.

Hollywood won't drop Chris Hemsworth.

For some strange reason Hollywood is with enamoured with making Australian dudes like Jai Courtney, 2 out of 3 Hemsworth brothers, Sam Worthington and Brenton Thwaites the next big leading man.

I like Chris Hemsworth but he isn't a character actor. I think he needs to pick roles that suit him better. He has more charisma than his brother Liam.

Chris Hemsworth is a better actor and has more charisma than Liam Hemsworth, Sam Worthington, or Jai Courtney.

I don't think his flops have really been through any fault of his own, except maybe picking projects more carefully.

For some reason, I'm really, really happy that Pan bombed.

I like the director but after listening to that abysmal "Smell's like teen spirit" cover I decided to not see the film and I wasn't too broken up about it's failure.

Yes, WB and Universal are 2 sides of a seesaw this year. Universal will never, NEVER have another year as successful as this year was for them so they'd better get their future expectations sobered up rather than some stupid idea that this is the new normal for them. And WB will rebound, I have no doubt.

Based on the events that took place aboard the whaling ship Essex in 1820 ,and the inspiration for Herman Melville's novel
Moby Dick In the Heart of the Sea definitely has its thrilling moments,as the massive white whale "stalks" the aforementioned
ship and it's crew, but what connects these scenes is mainly lackluster.Director Ron Howard does try to give us a triumph of the human
spirit story but in order to do that we have to be more connected to the characters.During the films final moments i did feel
some sort of connection but it was to little to late .ITHOTS still manages to be a good film, but definitely not the epic i thought
it would be from the trailers and even the movie posters promoting the film.

Scale of 1-10 a 7½

I think Hemsworth will be fine if he gets some Dwayne Johnson type action comedy roles. The guy has a good sense of humor.

Yeah he does well on SNL from what little I've seen of him on there. And he did well in Rush. Bruhl didn't carry that whole film.

Yeah, I couldn't believe it when I heard that they did that. Can we just put a moratorium on including 20th/21st century pop and rock songs in places where they don't belong from now on? Not everything can or should be Moulin f***ing Rouge. It was pretty grating in the Knight's Tale movie that came out over a decade ago, and I'm sure it was bad in Pan. They also did that on American Horror Story: Freak Show, and there it was REALLY dumb because the show took place in the 1950s and they sang a Lana Del Rey song that mentions Jim Morrison.

Warner Bros. Pictures sure has had a rough year. They should have greenlit more interesting movies, though. Their blockbusters this year, apart from Mad Max: Fury Road (which was greenlit years ago by a different team anyway), have really been kinda 'meh.'

I wouldn't necessarily say it was due to Hemsworth not being appealing enough as a leading man. Personally, I have no plans on seeing the film because I have very little interest in the story of a man vs a whale. Maybe other people feel the same, even if it's the best made film in the world. Not every film that's well made and has a stellar cast will appeal to every viewer, never mind the ones that aren't.

Yeah Chris is clearly not a box office draw. Next year will be better for him. Huntsman and Ghostbusters will do reasonably well, even though Charlize and Melissa are the bigger stars and bigger box office draws in those films.

Thankfully Marvel were smart enough to put the Hulk in the next Thor film.

Yeah, I think it's essentially it. I thought the film looked pretty good in the trailers but unless it got stellar reviews, I probably wasn't going to see it in theaters. I also thought it was a bit concerning when WB went from almost no promotion of it to 50,000 different TV spots and trailers all of a sudden. That's never a good sign.
