Saw this aritcle in the Chicago Sun Times today;

http://www.suntimes.com/news/politics/1179312,CST-NWS-beer23.article

The jist is some city officials are trying to force bars near Wrigley Field to stop serving beer between the seventh inning stretch and the end of the game during the playoffs. It pisses me off, I don't want the city telling me I'm not allowed to drink at a bar, just because there's a playoff game nearby. Plus, with Chicago trying for the Olympics what kind of message does that send, the city can't control itself during a sports event if they're allowed to drink at a bar for the whole thing. I was down in Wrigleyville Saturday when the Cubs clinched the division and didn't notice anything bad happening, just a bunch of people proudly celebrating the Cubs win.

This is a great idea! We could put some preachers outside of Wrigley for when everyone comes out! We'll really save alot of souls that way!

:doom: :doom: :doom:

The preachers would probably be smuggling the moonshi. . .uh, I mean holy water.:o

I can understand why the ballparks cut off beer sales after a certain point, but don't put that onto bars that aren't inside the ballpark.

It's Chicago, not Detroit

They need to be more worried about people getting shot in this city every other day than what shenanigans the drunk Northsiders are gonna get up to should the Cubs manage not to f**k up this year.

The article also says that it would apply to bars in the vicinity of Comiskey Park as well

The Sox wont make it out of the first round. I don't even follow baseball and I know that.

Yeah, but there's only one or two bars in that vicinity and you don't want to hang out at those bars anyway, the locals will kick your ass.

There's no other place to have a protest? Grant Park has no room? Navy Pier is fully booked? Daley Plaza said thanks but no thanks?

I don't see this happening. They're going to cut into some serious revenue for local business.:down

I doubt the city of Boston cut off beer sales in bars around Fenway in 2004 and 2007. Chicago didn't propose this in 2005.

Then what are we going to drink to forget when the Cubs **** up in the playoffs this year?

EDIT: Oh yeah beer.

Sluggers and Cubby Bears have too much influence in their district. This won't float.

I'm not sure Daley was talking pretty tough about this and Daley usually gets what he wants, just look what happened to Meigs Field. I really find it ridiculous, the only incident I read about regarding the Cubs winning the division happened on the south side.

Now Rev. Meeks is planning a protest for school reform at game 1 of the playoffs!?!?

That's ridiculous, what does baseball and the Cubs have to do with school reform? Chicago lawmakers stop trying to rain on the Cubs and thier fans parade!

He's trying to go where the spotlight is. You want people to know something, you go to where the T.V. cameras are at. Better than that keeping the kids outta school thing he had come up with at the beginning of the school year.

But unless people actually pay attention to what the group is protesting, the casual person will think "why the hell are they protesting the Cubs?!"

True. the avarage person is an idiot, which is why we need some school reform. :p

But it's not about the people at the game, it's about the media that will inevitably show up to follow the Cubs on this possible chance at breaking the 100+ year drought of non World Series....winning...ness. I mean, hey, free press. Why is it that the schools on the Northside have got better everything than the ones on the South and West sides? There's a cameraman with a national news broadcast network, lets ask him.

But even then, aside from the camera crew from WGN, the camera crews will either be from TBS (if they have a deal to broadcast some playoff games) or the sports crew for FOX, and maybe someone from ESPN.

Politics and sports aren't a great combination
