Comic Book Purchases and Thoughts for March 19th

Yeah, but this is what we've got and I'm content enough that what we've got ain't half bad. Much like how I'd prefer a TMNT cartoon that's as bloody and violent as the comics, but I'm content with the 2003 version in spite of its lower violence because it's a great cartoon otherwise.

Ironically, that new Wolverine and the X-Men cartoon looks pretty great.

That one may take me a little longer to get into, if I bother at all. The whole idea of a Wolverine and the X-Men cartoon offends me a little bit. I know Marvel's just chasing the money and all, but Wolverine really doesn't need to be the primary focus of an X-Men show. :o

they always find a way to make him the focus...even in the movies. X-2 should have been called wolverine and the x-men

I agree. But after watching the Foo Fighters trailer and seeing pretty much everyone at least once, I have to give it a shot. It doesn't seem dumbed down, which is refreshing.

The Foo Fighters are suing their asses, this will never air.

Yeah, I'll give it a shot. Beast seems to be one of the major(-but-not-quite-as-major-as-Wolverine) players, so it can't be all bad. Hopefully he doesn't go to prison for the whole first season this time...

The cartoon does look pretty good, but i'm afraid it may get dumbed down and victim to censorship since its on a Nickeolodeon channel. Remember how bad the Fox censors f***ed over the Spiderman cartoon?

Yeah, the Spider-Man cartoon had a lot of stuff changed or cut out due to censorship. I think that level of censorship is pretty uncommon these days, though. Plus, y'know, Nickelodeon aired Ren & Stimpy and Spongebob for years.

One persistent censorship issue that's always bugged me is the mandate that modern-day guns can't be shown in cartoons on some networks. Really? Does that change anything other than to pull your mind right out of the cartoon? A kid is going to figure out that laser guns aren't all that different from normal guns pretty quickly anyway, if by some miracle they don't already know. Was there significantly more gun violence back in the '60s, when kids used to watch cowboys and Indians shooting each other with real guns in westerns all the time?

It's all stupid. I mean, they're reasoning is, that if a kid sees a gun on a cartoon, he's gonna go play with one. Okay. Does that mean a kid is going to try to swing off of roof by a rope? What about crawl down into the sewers looking for the Lizard?

It's as ridiculous as Marvel's no smoking policy, which incidentally has been lifted, I assume.

I thought it was lifted "if you can come up with a damn good reason you need to show smoking." Which is equally as stupid as having the unmitigated ban in the first place.

Didn't Kooning give that Fury looking dude some cigars in that last issue of IM?

I don't know, maybe. I thought the ban was on actually portraying people smoking, though, not on showing any cigars or smoking material at all.

I'm fairly certain I've seen a few characters smoking the past few months.

Maybe Joe Q realized how ludicrous it was and became more lenient. Or maybe he's content with OMD as his grand imposition of a personal agenda on the entirety of the company now. Who knows?

I don't even care anymore. He's not going anywhere, so I just avoid his interviews, try to work around whatever he ****s up, and focus on the good comics.
