Convention Etiquette

I'm glad I've never gone to a convention . Going to free comic book day at my local comic book shop is bad enough.I wanted to shoot myself while standing in line hearing this nerd talk about D&D for 25 minutes.

It's not that they don't bathe, I think it's that no one ever taught them how to properly bathe. Or about how to cover up your natural stink. Maybe even how to wash their clothes. Plus I'm sure living entirely off of junk food when you're at a con might contribute too.

I don't know. I bathe everyday even if I don't wash my hair every day. I never wear clothes for days at a time except if I'm in sweats or pajamas for over a day. But even then, I don't stink.

I think some people regardless of personal hygiene just stink. :huh:
 
Diet is a part of it. Some people always smell vaguely like the food they eat. God forbid they work up a sweat, or they'll smell like that food gone bad.
 
I think that's true as well, but there are ways you can mask it at least. :o

tipping seems to be an issue as well....when Ive gone to bars and stuff, I apologize up front for the fandom being cheap ****s and its gotten a laugh every time

Prostitutes aside BL, take a shower, deodorant not one of those AXE sprays, one spritz of cologne if you must and make sure the clothes you are wearing are clean.
 
I'm always shocked when I meet people who don't tip. Sure, I can't calculate a tip to save my life, but that's what the calculator in my cellphone is for. Or if I'm at a bar, you're getting an extra dollar per drink I order.

And make sure it's only one spritz. This ain't the Junior Prom. Learn how to wear cologne like an adult.
 
It always boggles my mind how we as geeks* seem to be so willingly to throw our money away on frivolous things (don't get me wrong, I love those frivolous things too) and yet we get stingy as hell when it's time to tip.

*Yes I know, not every geek is like that, but I've seen quite a few at cons.
 
15% most of the time. If service is horrible, 10% before taxes. But if it's great service, it's usually 20% after taxes.
 
I do 15% standard, 20% for great service, 10% for so-so service, and $1 for bad service. Denny's and IHOP get $1 out of me by default, because that's usually within the 10% range for their meals to begin with.

Yeah, I wouldn't tip if the service was really bad. Unless I knew I'd probably have to go back there again.
 
I have friends who were in the service industry, also, I don't find myself at too many TGI Fridays, Chili's restaurants. So I don't usually encounter "horrible" service. Usually it's in terms of making a 15-20 min meal into 30-40 minutes, etc.
 
the Outback near my office has good to great service, I go there regularly so I tip well and people remember that

but yea...people will pay triple what it costs online to get a variant The Spot figure but can't drop $5-$8 for a tip

I think a good one is "don't touch other people's props and/or costumes." Unless you specifically ask and they let you, people generally don't like it. And if they do let you, treat it better than a newborn child because you've no idea if the object/costume is special to that person, if it was difficult to create or expensive to buy, etc etc.
 
I agree....Im not into costumes or any of that stuff but a lot of work goes into it, from what I have seen
 
Bring lots of extra cash for signed photographs, your favorite washed up actors have mortgages!
