If Man of Steel was a page-for-page, panel-for-panel adaptation (like Watchmen) of the Byrne miniseries? Would that have been awesome and epic, or would it have felt, like Superman Returns and, many thought, Watchmen, too dated, too much from a different time?

I actually think they’d have been better adapting Birthright or Secret Origin if they were to do a straight up adaptation of a comic.

Secret Origin is a superb piece of comic book 'lore' and would have made a good starting off point, but MoS was equally as strong a springboard for what they needed it to be.

I feel most fans would've appreciated that more. Personally, I got the Superman I always wanted with MOS. My issues with the film are its with the camera work and structure of the movie.
I do think It would've benefited the movie overall if Snyder Approached making this movie the way he did Watchmen.

Birthright should've been the blueprint for the first superman movie. Even if it were page by page. It's so perfect imo.

Not a fan of Birthright, but Man of Steel (Byrne ) would have been great (and been a better introduction for the new Batman).

Secret Origin would have worked too.

Having said all that I rewatched Man of Steel the other night and to be honest I still think its a good film ( for me the big failing was Pa Kent's death and the lack of reaction to all the destruction at the end).
Anyway, it could have been better but as reboots go it did the trick.

Also IMO the supporting cast, particularly the villains were far superior to those in Wonder Woman ( Amy Adams > Chris Pine, Diane Lane > Robin Wright and Connie Neilsen and Michael Shannon band Antje Traue > all the villains in WW) although Gal Gadot was a stronger lead and a much better written character ( which is why WW was vastly better received). She made the film.

There’s no way you can adapt Byrne’s Man of Steel. It’s too episodic.
