Heather Mills, the estranged wife of singer Paul McCartney, will put on her dancing shoes for the upcoming season of ABC's celebrity ballroom-dancing hit.

ABC's Dancing With the Stars returns March 19 (8 ET/PT) for a fourth season with a slate of celebrity hoofers aimed at raising both eyebrows and heartbeats.
The estranged wife of Paul McCartney headlines a group of 11 competitors that also includes two singers, three athletes, a former supermodel and an ex-beauty queen.

This year's most intriguing contestant is Heather Mills, who has been vilified in the British press over the messy divorce proceedings with McCartney. Dancing executive producer Conrad Green says that, notoriety aside, what's compelling about Mills is she's Dancing's first disabled performer. Mills, 39, lost part of her leg in a motorcycle accident.

"She's a tremendously compelling story," says Green, who notes that Mills will be judged no differently than other performers. "People will definitely be interested in how Heather copes."

While Dancing isn't the powerhouse American Idol is for Fox, putting B-list celebs into ballroom costumes helped ABC draw an average 20 million viewers for last season's competition shows and 27.5 million for the finale — won surprisingly by ex-Dallas Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith, the NFL's all-time rushing leader.

Other competitors:

•Laila Ali, 29, undefeated boxing pro and daughter of heavyweight legend Muhammad Ali. "She's a great athlete," says Green. "Smart, beautiful and driven. She could be the surprise" of the competition.

•Billy Ray Cyrus, 45, the actor and country singer now with daughter Miley on the Disney Channel hit Hannah Montana.

•Clyde Drexler, 44, the 6-foot-7 former Houston Rocket and Portland Trailblazer named as one of the National Basketball Association's all-time top 50 players.

•Actor and former 'N Sync boy band member Joey Fatone, 30.

•Shandi Finnessey, 28, Miss USA 2004 and co-host of the Game Show Network's Lingo.,

•Former Entertainment Tonight co-host Leeza Gibbons, 49.

•Apolo Ono the two-time Olympic gold medalist in short-track skating. Ono is the youngest competitor in Dancing history.

•Vincent Pastore, 60, best known for playing whacked mobster Salvatore (Big *****) Bonpensiero on HBO's The Sopranos. "He's a guy's guy. If Vinny can do this, anyone can," Green says.

•Czech-born Paulina Porizkova, 41, the ?80s supermodel.

•Ian Ziering, 42, one of the heartthrobs in the 1990s? hit Beverly Hills 90210.

Winners will be crowned on Dancing?s May 22 finale.

well DWTS premiered last night, and I would have forgotten if I wasn't having dinner at my fiance's house (she doesn't have cable).

i watched some of it, but it was barely palpable. i only want to see the hot dancers, and ashley's not even on this edition :( edyta still owns my heart, but i don't think it's enough to keep watching this show...

You couldn't pay me to watch Dancing with the D-List, has-been "Stars".

I saw it, it wasn't that bad. But it seems like everyone is either hoping Mills leaves soon, or hoping her leg will fly off.

Admittedly, the field is a bit weaker than in previous years (no Stacey or Mario to get going right off the bat). But that's more like the spirit of the show, I think, taking people who are not good dancers and turning them into good dancers.

I have to admit, Clyde Drexler was painful to watch, but he's got a great attitude. Shandi was a little disappointing, and I suspect she'll be among the first three eliminated.

I was hoping Heather Mills' leg was gonna fall off. :csad: That b**** deserves to be embrassed.

I watched it the other night. I'm not overly impressed with this season's cast compared to the last two seasons. However, I think Joey Fatone is this season's Drew or Mario. That guy is really good on the floor. Ian Ziering surprised me as well. He worked really good with Cheryl.

It's a good show. I've always liked dancing, and dance, and this is a fun show to watch if you care for the styles of Ballroom or Latin.

Well, Joey Fatone should have no excuse for not being able to pick up choreography quicker than the rest of the cast, having been in N'Sync all those years.

And Mario Lopez, if I recall, has had previous dance experience, so him doing so well on the show was no surprise.

Fatone's 'trainer' is H-O-T!!! She danced w/Springer in the fall, but she was even MORE [:wow:] gorgeous [/:wow:] the other night!

I try not to think too unkindly of Heather Mills. Like 99.99% of the planet, I have no direct knowledge of what went on in her marriage, and I'm in no position to judge. And I think 90% of the public anger against her is just the BS baby boomers neverending attachment to the Beatles.

That being said, I think she's in trouble when she has to handle the Latin round next week. If she can't put weight on one leg, that's going to make some Latin steps difficult.

The SW geeks on the SHH board missed quite something this week, that's all I'll say.

And with the last two eliminations, I can definitely see a lot of the soccer mom voters hating on all the tall, beautiful women who are on the show.

I watched the elimination show tonight...what was up with the "sorcerer segment" as I would like to call it??

A few years ago that might be considered a little taboo. Tonight I considered it intriguing/corny/don't-do-it-again.
