The feature, from first-time writer-director Michael Shanks, was one of the rare to spark a bidding war. Yet the sale still took several days to close. A24 was also in the running at other point, with other studios, including Mubi, kicking the tires. It’s not clear what the final price tag is, but sources said the bidding was well over $10 million at one point in recent days. One source even put it at $15 million, which would make it one of the biggest deals in Sundance history.

“Together” follows a codependent couple that moves to the remote countryside to become even closer. And they do, on a nightmarish physical level, thanks to a supernatural force. Putting a meta spin on the body horror film, Franco and Brie are married in real life.

Alison Brie and Dave Franco had to use the bathroom while 'physically attached' for 'Together'

Real-life married couple Alison Brie and Dave Franco had to spend hours a day physically attached to each other for their new horror movie, 'Together.' This meant they did not have much privacy during bathroom breaks.

In 2019, Patrick Phelan wrote the Better Half screenplay, which was optioned by StudioFest, according to the complaint. The casting director for the film later emailed the WME agents who represent Franco and Brie to extend a $20,000 offer for the lead roles. The full script for the movie was attached in the message, the lawsuit says.

After the offer was turned down, StudioFest proceeded with production. The move premiered in 2023 to little buzz. Better Half producers, in the lawsuit, say they “sat in stunned silence, their worst nightmare unfolding” when they watched Together at Sundance earlier this year.

And both movies have the same endings. Oof, this can't be a coincidence...
