Aussie filmmaker David Michod has finally settled on his follow-up to "Animal Kingdom," as he's set to write and direct "The Rover" for David Linde's Lava Bear banner and Oz-based Porchlight Films. Michod is writing the script, based on an idea he and "Animal Kingdom" star Joel Edgerton originated.

Story follows a man on a mission to retrieve his stolen car, which contains something invaluable to him.

Delighted that Michôd has started to put together his next film. After the excellent Animal Kingdom, I'll anxiously be awaiting any upcoming projects that he does.

Guy Pearce & Robert Pattinson Slated to Join The Rover

After taking his time finding his follow up to his critical hit "Animal Kingdom" helmer David Michod has found that next project in "Rover" with Robert Pattinson and Guy Pearce currently in negotiations to star.
Pearce will play a man who after having his car stolen by a group of men pursues them through the wild and rugged Australian Outback. Pattinson will play one of the thiefs.

Pearce is always an excellent addition and pairing up with Michôd is a step in the right direction career-wise for Pattinson.

The trailer doesn't show a lot, but it's enough to get me excited. Along with the teaser is a new image.

Has anybody seen it? It looks amazing. Pearce seems to be giving a lifetime performance. I love the song in the trailer, enter one, it's very moody.

I did like a month ago. I didn't really know what to think when leaving the movie theater, it's very bleak, nihilistic and there's not really a story per se, it's more about the senseless violence in a post apocalyptic world, and what sense you make of it, there are no more rules, it's total anarchy.

It's well shot, the score is quite repetitive & unpleasant but I'm guessing it's what they were going for. Pearce is fine, didn't really do much for me, he's pretty much one note for the whole movie, he's the guy who's so pissed off at the world, that's basically it.

Rob Pattinson is the real standout here, he's playing this simpleton & has a lot of hilarious moments.

Scoot McNairy is totally wasted, he has a tiny role & isn't given enough material to make an impression.

I think the script is very weak, really doesn't do much, relies more on ambiance & atmosphere.

It grew on me just a bit more after seeing it, but overall, I just have conflicting feelings veering towards negativity about it, I kept wanting the movie to end because it's such a slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww slow burn & it's unpleasant to watch, there's no emotion anywhere, it's just violent & bleak & desperate.

Anyway, pretty much a huge letdown for me, I get what Michod was trying to do here, but this has nothing over Animal Kingdom. I'm kind of surprised it's fresh on Rotten since this is pretty much the exact type of the movie that should be divisive.

I think opinions from people other than critics will probably be though.

thank you for your review. I can see how the very dark tone can feel monotonous. So you wouldn't say it was epic and emotional? Because that's really the vibe I was getting from the trailer.

I still need to see it though!

Oh no, no no no no, not at all. That's one of the reasons why I'm let down. What the trailer sells is not all what you're getting. Marketing 101 I'd say but it's another example of a trailer that works very well as a piece but that is totally misrepresentative of what the actual movie is like.

Meh.

By the way, it felt surprising to me how small scale the movie is, I wouldn't necessarily say low budget but it's just the opposite of epic & grand.

Robert Pattinson singing 'pretty girl rock' was the most random scene in a movie I've seen this year

I've finally seen it. I loved it. The story was simple, but it was thoughtful. The acting as amazing. Not much happened, but it was interesting. Agreed about Pattinson's singing.

I love the trailers for this...on first viewing on Vudu (picked up blu+digital), I felt it was alright with nice, very nice acting from Pearce and Patterson. I'm more interested in how the world came to be in the film than the movie itself, but I do plan on watching it again later in the week. It's bleak alright. And I got the ending, that's all I will say.
