The New Batman: Return of the Caped Crusuaders movie is labelled 'a DC Classic Original Movie'. From Twitter:

"Might this 'Classic' labelling leads to more DTV's based on older shows/movies? I'd love Burton-verse movie."

Gary Miereanu [WB PR Guy]:
"Very astute observation. Watch carefully today ..".

Thisis a very exciting prospect, something that interests me more than the DC Original Movie line. We could get more Batman 66, Burton's Batman, Donner's Superman, Lynda Carter back as Wonder Woman etc.

Kevin Smith's Superman script? Batman Triumphant/Unchained? Justice League Mortal? Other known-but-unmade gems. Interesting thing about the first one in particular is people know a lot about it already (and Batman cameos, woulsd have been the first DC character crossover)

But a lot of people around are talking about resurrecting the 1989 Batverse so hopefully they've taken notice.

We could even get versions of old comics/Elseworlds that don't fit into the DCAOM world?

If it's true, put me down for a post-Smallville Superman movie with the voices of Welling and Rosenbaum.

Millar and Gough had a pitch for it (live action version) years ago while making the show, but that got passed over in favor of Superman Returns.

Seconded

While they're at it as well should adapt Superman Reborn by Cary Bates. It was a sequel to the Reeve movies.

Don't know how the consensus is

But I haven't like most of the post flashpoint Paradox New 52 inspired DC animated movies.

I'd be down for a continuation of the Burtonverse via animated films. The only recent DC animated movie I saw and liked was Assault on Arkham. Justice League: War was meh.

I really wish DC would ditch the idea of continuity between their dtvs. Especially when it's New 52 based. And even more when it's not the better parts of the New 52.

I'd like for them to try to set up connections between their heroes' major stories. Linking their animated DKR with TKJ for example. I think that would bring them a good bit of success with their live action ventures, setting up the heroes' respective trilogies following these great character-defining stories.

I would love a continuation of the Burton movies. Maybe even bring back Michael Keaton to do the voice over work

There's so much they can do with this:

Serials/George Reeves Superman

-- This would be a wonderful nostalgic movie with the 'innocence' of the 50s - would work as one of WB's Tom & Jerry films ala The Wizard of Oz?
Batman 66

-- They've gone for the 4 key villains for Return of the Caped Crusaders; If they do no 2, 3 or 4 I'd love them to bring back rare villains such as King Tut, Egghead etc or maybe even do what the comics did and introduce Hareyquin, Bane etc to the universe - would Harlan Ellison allow them to adapt the Two-Face script?
Filmation/Super Friends

-- Doubt it considering they stuck with a modern animation style for the Batman 66 movie, they know they can recreate this style as they did for The Brave and the Bold
Wonder Woman 77

-- In British culture at least the most well-remembered Wonder Woman is Lynda Carter and they've revisited this series as a comic book, so very possible. Carter has filmed now for both Smallville and Supergirl
Donnerverse

-- I can see them bringing back Routh between Arrowverse duties, Returns was a spiritual follow up.
Superboy

-- Unlikely
The Flash 90

-- Maybe, John Wesley Shipp and several of his costars have popped up in the reboot
Burtonverse

-- I would absolutely love this it's a pity the comic pitch was turned down, this hasn't been marketed as much as the 66 series in recent years, but there is still a clear nostalgia for it. They could give Burton's universe a similar boom and a movie. Keaton may want to return? As well of course there's Kevin Smith's Superman Lives script which has production designs and all.
DC Animated Universe

-- Did it ever really go away? The key voice cast have been rehired over and over to play their characters again, there have been comics and short films and games all calling back, with a BTAS/TMNT crossover on the horizon
Lois & Clark

-- Very good series, still fondly remembered. A maybe
Schumacherverse

-- Unlikely, is this a continuation of the Burtonverse or not, there seems to be some debate? There was a sequel script somewhere by Goldman, called Batman Unchained - allegedly pitting Batman against the Scarecrow and Harley Quinn.
Birds of Prey

-- Only 13 episodes, the story remained unfinished. Maybe a movie could finally see the return of Batman?
Nolanverse

-- This has already had an animated movie, Gotham Knight, maybe we could have something I dunno, would it work?
Smallville

-- If they want to pursue this I can very much see them adapting some of the Season 11 comic stories, specifically the 'Detective' one as Batman seems to be a huge seller.
The Batman/Legion of Super Heroes/Brave and the Bold

-- Would anyone be nostalgic for these shows? Brave and the Bold was a very good and respectable homage ot the history of DC.
Young Justice/Green Lantern TAS

-- Both these shows were cancelled prematurely so many may appreciate a comeback
Reynolds Green Lantern

Anybody? No?

So as you can see there are a lot of possibilities if this is what the Classics line wants to do.

Maybe even they could adapt pre-Crisis comics, other famous unmade screenplays, as well as an original crossover for example Donner/SM Lives/Dean Cain Superman, Burton Batman, Lynda Carter Wonder Woman and Shipp Flash to make a JLA (or Super Friends?) I can see them taking that step.

I'm sure Bruce Timm (or someone) was once asked about the possibility of doing previous scripts for films that didn't get made and he said it was a possibility.

If so they should totally make Superman Lives and JL Mortal

I want to see a Burton BVS with Keaton and Nic Cage.

Not sure if they would be able to do a good film set in the Burtonverse from scratch, but i'm incredibly excited by the possibility of seeing unadapted scripts like the ones for Batman 5 and Superman Lives being done in animation.

I would love Donner Superman and Burton Batman animated movies. There was a time when the Burton movies really seemed to be frowned upon and thought of as mistakes that Nolan corrected with his movies, but now I feel like the hatred of Burton's unfaithfulness to the comics has waned now that the Nolan series has ended, so maybe now it's time to begin celebrating Burton's movies instead of ignoring them.

This is a BRILLIANT idea. I mean brilliant. As in, I will be legitimately pissed if Warner doesn't take advantage of this idea. An original movie that could act as the third Burton Batman movie would be AWESSOMME! Have the art direction akin to Burton's art-deco, gothic- noir style. You could even have Keaton voice him! Bring back Michelle Pfiefer as Catwoman! Bring back Danny Elfman (or have a Danny Elfman-esque sounding score). :hmr::hmr::hmr::hmr::hmr:

A Donner Superman animated movie would be awesome too. Be the unofficial Superman III. Or, Heck, they should just go balls to the wall and do a Batman v. Superman movie....with Keaton's Batman and Reeve's Superman. How insane would that be?! And have Lynda Carter be Wonder Woman.

This is what these DTV's should be all about, they need to ditch this shared continuity series of New 52 based films and do more original, creative adaptations like this. They're just wasting time and wasting the potential that these DTV's could reach. I am salivating at the possibilities.

I feel like WB needs to put out a formal press release about just what the mission of this line really is, because I feel like a lot of you might be setting yourselves up for disappointment.

I just don't see "DC Classic" and think "Oh maybe they're doing an animated version of Superman Lives."

Bring back Fleischer Superman. Those hold up incredibly well. A Golden Age Supes film set in the 1940's is long overdue.

I'm still waiting for a followup to JLA Adventures.
