The Amazing Spider-Man Deleted scenes!

I randomly found a couple of interviews with the kid who played Billy, and it was specifically this one where he mentions filming at three different locations and then says this --

And I poked around IMDB a bit and found this behind-the-scenes photograph of the actor with Rhys Ifans, who's obviously wearing the costume from the after-credits scene. They're obviously not on set there, but it seems to match up with that quote.

Another great scene that would've explored the personal life of Curt Connors taken out and we only see a work horse type Curt Connors. Very disappointing.

Yeah I agree. If there's one thing I wish was different about ASM it would have been to show Connors with his family.

Agreed. And I'm really hoping the reason why those additional scenes weren't on the deleted scenes roll is because they're saving them for the Lizard bonus disc or something. I'd love to see them, and I can't think of why they wouldn't release it.

While I still mostly enjoyed what we got, it definitely disappointed me that Connors was underwritten and could have been a much more complex character if we had seen him have a life outside of being a scientist or the trope of a disabled character whose entire being centres around trying to be 'complete'. Same with his relationship with Peter -- I remember reading all this stuff about how their relationship in the film would be so complex and have a father figure thing going on, but in the final print, eh. They only had two pre-Lizard scenes where Curt was aware of who Peter was, and all they really did was talk science stuff. I never got a strong sense of a close relationship, Curt as a more well-rounded character who grew over the film, or that Peter genuinely cared about him (versus just wanting to fix his own mistake/stop the villain) until these deleted scenes came out.

And going back a bit -- something else I liked about the Billy scene we got is that it parallels the opening scene where Richard tells Peter that he and Mary have to go away and do something for a little while. Like I mentioned in another thread, it would have been a great way to set up Peter also being motivated to save Curt so that another boy doesn't lose a father (to shady Oscorp business in a way again too, no less) rather than just fixing a mistake and stopping an evil plot.

(Also, interestingly, I was just looking at a larger version of the alternate decay algorithm scene with the large chalkboard, and you can clearly see a photograph of Billy in the lower left-hand corner of the board. I'd love to know what else happened in that scene and why it was replaced with the final kitchen version. The chalkboard is even another parallel to the opening scene once again.)

I only got three deleted scenes with my iTunes download. Is that all there are on the DVD?

The official features listing say there are eleven, though as one is technically a two-parter, some may count it as ten.

Having watched the deleted scenes just now, I can actually say as someone severely disappointed in the Lizard's characterization, that they would have made a HUGE difference in the film.

I still think the character design is bad and that it would have required more Billy, but showing Connors does have a son, his connection with Peter being more developed and showing him as completely dependent, even addicted to the Lizard formula makes him far more sympathetic and multi-layered. If Peter could have brought up Billy in the lair scene and tried to reach out to Curt it would have been even better.

It still would not have made up for the character design, the rushed third act, ruining Ben's death or Peter's overall mischaracterization at the end...but it would have made Lizard a much more compelling and interesting villain. It would have helped the film.
