Denzel Washington will star in Warner Bros.' Book of Eli, a post-apocalyptic drama that will be directed by Allen and Albert Hughes, reports Variety.

Washington will portray a lone hero in a not-too-distant apocalyptic future who must fight across America to bring society the knowledge that could be the key to its redemption.

Gary Whitta wrote the script, and Anthony Peckham did the rewrite.

Joel Silver is producing with Washington, Susan Downey and Alcon co-founders Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson. Shooting begins in January.

Gary Oldman Opens Book of Eli

Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight) will co-star with Denzel Washington in Book of Eli, Warner Bros. Pictures' post-apocalyptic action film to be directed by Allen and Albert Hughes, reports Variety.

Book of Eli revolves around a lone warrior (Washington) who must fight to bring society the knowledge that could be the key to its redemption. Oldman has been set to portray the despot of a small makeshift town who's determined to take possession of the book Eli's guarding.

Alcon toppers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson will produce, along with Joel Silver and Washington.

Filming begins in February in New Mexico, with the movie set for a U.S. release on January 15, 2010.

I have an obsession with these post-apocalyptic movies. This and The Road I can't wait for. The only recent one I hated was I Am Legend so hopefully this will trump that but I know it will. Look at the cast.

Mila Kunis Joins The Book of Eli

Mila Kunis (Max Payne, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) has joined the cast of The Book of Eli, the Denzel Washington action thriller from Warner Bros. and Alcon Entertainment. Albert and Allen Hughes are directing. Gary Oldman co-stars.

The script, by Gary Whitta and a rewrite by Anthony Peckham, centers on a lone hero named Eli (Washington) who must fight his way across the wasteland of a near-future America to protect a sacred book that might hold the key to saving the future of humanity.

Kunis plays a woman named Solara, at first enlisted to betray Eli, she ultimately joins him in his quest.

Principal photography begins in February in New Mexico.

Ray Stevenson, who opens Friday in the title role of "The Punisher: War Zone," has joined Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman and Mila Kunis in "Book of Eli," the Alcon-financed drama that Warner Bros. will distribute.

Allen and Albert Hughes will direct the pic, which begins shooting in February.

Stevenson will play an enforcer dispatched to kill Eli (Washington) as he fights his way across the American wasteland, protecting a sacred book that may hold the key to saving humanity.

Stevenson took over the Frank Castle/Punisher role in the Marvel Comics transfer after starring in the HBO drama "Rome." He most recently completed the Paul Weitz-directed "Cirque du Freak" for Universal.

Haha! .........This cast is really shaping up nicely, I know Stevens is gonna get some stick for the new Punisher movie but i think he looks like he can carry off this type of role and got good reviews for Rome.

I agree....I really like the cast. I've seen him in clips from Rome, and his character was absolutely brutal(in a good way). Total bad ass. Hopefully I get the series for Xmas.
