Yeah, it's a great canvass to paint on. I really liked the current issue of Thor with Odin and Surtur. Another great visual.

I've always wanted to get into Thor and now seems like the best time.So I'm getting the Fraction One shot and then the JMS back issues.Also I fond the disassembled trade for cheap.So I'm diving in.

You might want to just wait for the trade on the JMS issues. I think the first six are being collected soon.

Can I get #7 and #8 without reading the first six issues?

Yeah, you can. The only thing you really need to know is that Thor expends the Odinforce at the end of #6 resurrecting all of the remaining Asgardians who died in Ragnarok and has to go into a special sleep called the Odinsleep to replenish it. The story, other than that, is pretty self-contained.
