As stated in the title. I was pondering this after watching Doug Walker's (aka The Nostalgia Critic) Disneycember review of the The Phantom Menace. He'd known watching the first trailer that it was going to be a bad movie, but he does state that he didn't anticipate that the movie would be that bad.
I pondered on this question, and I remember watching that trailer way back in 1998 and thinking nothing but "OMG! Star War is back!". I'd fully bitten into the hype and even thought the 2nd trailer was even more awesome. But watching this trailer now, with my more critical mindset, I have to admit the trailer does hint that the movie would be not that good. Mostly from the acting, with the exception of Liam Neeson everyone looks stiff. I will admit that the lightsaber duels and space battles looked cool, and thankfully Jar Jar's idiocy is kept to a minimum.
So what are your thoughts on this? If anyone needs a refresher, here's the first trailer for The Phantom Menace:
