Diminished Interest in Synder's WATCHMEN?

How excited are you for Zack Syder's WATCHMEN?

  • I love everything I've seen! This is like the Dark Knight all over again!

  • I don't like some things, but I'm still excited to see the film.

  • I don't like quite a few things, and at this point, I'm pretty indifferent.

  • I won't see the film because of what I've seen so far-But I may see the Directors Cut DVD someday.

  • I hate the very idea of it! I hope Fox torpedos the whole deal! HAIL MOORE!

From the start of Synder and Co.'s project (comic con panels, the first poster, casting news, character test shots trailers), to the present (production diaries, cast and crew interviews, news of story changes, 20th Century Fox's looming release delay, etc), how have your feelings towards a Watchmen film evolved or devolved?

If you are excited--what are you liking about what you have seen so far?

If you indifferent--what turned you off to the film?

If you are angry--was it the squid? :oldrazz:

Certainly removing the squid, hearing the run time being trimmed and couple of other things have devolved my feelings. Perhaps its because I've been following this since October 2006 that I've just grown tired of waiting.

Hmm, the length, the ending, and the moved date have heavied my boots, but the teaser still gives me chills.

Option number 1!!!

Nothing I can read or see would throw me off now...except, maybe some footage where they use 99 Luftballoons maybe...

Every piece of footage we've been given thus far has only heightened my interest. The squid thing wasn't a big deal, and I think they found a nice alternative. The run time isn't bad either, considering they're already pushing their luck with WB. Only thing that may lower my anticipation level is if it gets delayed much farther. Considering how we only have less then 3 months to go.

easily number 1 every bit of info/video blogs/photos/trailers/footage/etc. i just get more excited tell you the truth i am way more excited for this than i ever was for TDK

I'm still excited, and it looks to be stylistically on-point, but I'm just not sure if it'll do the book justice. Watchmen is a good read, but there are various moral undercurrent that I think might be difficult to bring to the screen. Specifically, Rorschach's entire mentality. Changing the "Save us!" line (however minutely it was changed) just goes to show that they're tweaking Rorschach's character. I'm still not sure how I feel about that.

I know some of you are actively looking forward to this film failing, but this is a peach of a thread.

Every thing ive seen about this movie so far has peaked my interest more and more. All of my initial fears concerning various things like Dr Manhattan's voice, Rorschachs voice, the general look of the movie have been eradicated and instead been replaced with pure excitement.

Even certain changes like the squid and other little things ive heard i can completely allow and understand why theyre needed. From what ive heard so far Snyder hasnt changed anything that didnt need to be changed for a movie adaptation.

However, i fear now that this legal malarky could greatly effect mine, and other peoples interest in the movie. If they carry it on for ages and ages and we dnt get the movie for a long time i think a lot of people will just give up on it. Which is such a shame as browsing the internet before FOX won the lawsuit, a lot of people who were not excited before seemed to be getting there and the hype was at a good level.

I just hope this lawsuit doesnt f**k it all up.

Peter Parker wb cant have someone say ****es in trailer which his why the edited the line for the trailer

All I'm upset over is the changed ending for many reasons I've discussed in several threads already. While the film looks great and seems like its on point, but the ending might really let me down. We'll see eventually.

Am I the only one glad that the squid is out? I read the GN for the first time (got it from Santa) and the squid was totally random and completely unnecessary.

I like Synder's approach.

Are we certain the line was changed for the movie, and not just for the trailer?

I'm not "glad" the squid is out but I think there is potential for Snyder to improve on Watchmen's original ending.

My excitement for the movie has diminished somewhat over time just because I can't keep up that level of anticipation forever. It wuldn't be good for my health. :funny: I probably just need to see another video blog or some more posters or something to get me going again.

im pretty sure they just changed that for the trailer...it wouldnt be smart to keep the ****e part in there to try and interest certain people...

as for me the squid thing kinda hurt...but all in all i couldnt be more excited as of right now...everything seems perfect that ive seen (i hope ill enjoy the watchmen ending as much as the books though...if its ever released)

I am probably more excited because it is closer now and I read the Watchmen book for the first time in years in its entirety this month. The closer it gets the more interested I become, since Spider-Man 2 (with the exception of SM3, which was a letdown) I try not to get "hyped" for any movie these days. But when the film is a month away or less, I'm sure I will be frequenting this board a lot in anticipation.

But I find it hard to understand why people could become less excited, except the trailers may have gotten old. I do worry about Snyder possibly losing sight in the story's humanity in favor of flashy visuals, as it really was the best attempt to date of comic books setting superheroes and their consequences in the "real world." I also think Veidt looks much too young. At the same time the trailers are incredibly entertaining and, in a word, cool.

Sof, I'll wait to see the m movie before joining on the bandwagons that are being divided by fans apparently across the whole of the internet. And over what? A squid. That is very much a miniscule change as it was not introduced truly until issue 11, is only actually seen in about 3 panels and could be easily changed into something more cinematic or filmic without losing any of the story's power or luster.

In short: Wait and see.

P.S. I looked through the thread and repeatedly saw the running time. I know that Snyder has repeatedly said that the director's cut is well over 3 hours and that he cut the film down to 2:43 and was trying to defend that version. Is that the final running time as it says on imdb?

If so, fans have little to worry about, because getting a "superhero movie" that is nearly 3 hours is an achievement. If it was cut down to like 2 hours, I could understand backlash though. Could anyone tell me the information?

When Spidey 3 came out, I never thought I'd be more excited for a film release, and then The Dark Knight showed up, and then I thought I'd never be more excited for a film throughout its production, and then Watchmen comes along...And the excitement I have for this movie is beyond the previous combined. I'm really excited. And if fox ruins it, and delays...I'll be extremely pissed off.

I have been nothing but extremely excited for this ever since i first read the book earlier this year. Seeing the trailers and reading the book again meant that my excitement had reached fever pitch. Until the Fox stuff diminished a bit, not for the actual movie, but the fact that we dont if the movie will be released in March or not.

Excited about everything except the ending. I want to see the squid.

I think it's been cut down to 2.5 hours now. I'm pretty sure there was a thread on it.
