Discussion: Political Discourse. How ugly will it get?

I was watching Bill Moyer's journal the other night and saw this report that really disturbed me. I'm a liberal and I live in a red state. I can't put an Obama sticker on my car or a sign in my yard. Tried it with Kerry and it wasn't worth the grief. Several mailboxes and a paint job later I gave up.

What I'm trying to say is there's a lot of anger being projected in our political discourse right now. I worry as things get worse economically this could become more of a problem.

Actually, watching further into that with the various radio show hosts, what they are saying - people say that crap all the time. Like, paraphrasing a little here, "New Orleans was a welfare city, a city of parasites, full of people that could not and had no desire to fend for themselves". The danger is that these guys get a lot of listeners, and I see not those exact arguments, but arguments very similar to that being used. A number of people really believe these things. The attitudes these guys throw out on the air is part of the reason why politics is so divisive. It's the reason why you hear people use the word liberal like its a dirty word.

And how people use conservative like the same dirty word. I'm a republican and even I get tired of the message that the talking heads put out there. If I hear one more talking about rounding up all the illegals and sending them back I will scream!

You are right though alot of people take their opinion (rush) as the gospel and then repeat that crap like truth

Well we have 2 incidents this year of murders of liberals for no other reason other than who they were. This one in the report and then the Democrat in Arkansas who was killed in his office. There are mentally ill people out there and they don't need to be prodded and goaded like these people do. They incite rage and hate. They dehumanize people. Joseph Goebbels would love these people.

These talk show hosts are truely disgusting. They go on about how America is the land of freedom and choice but advocate riots and killing political opponents.

Oh and Glenn Beck? Al Gore wants to rule the world by uniting us in fear of global warming? Where is your criticism of George Bush and his fear mongering? A Democrat presents a problem and its fear mongering. A Republican presents a problem and he's a hero? Bull****.

On the upside, no one really takes these ass***** seriously. There were no riots in Denver, sorry to hear Operation Chaos didnt work for you Rush.

The first and last time I listened to his show, he was discussing sexual predators with one of his callers. Then, out of nowhere, he said this: "I'm sorry, but this needs to be said. Gays will rape your children. You leave your children with gays, and they will rape them."

So yeah, I consider him to be one of the most disgusting pieces of filth to ever degrade this planet.

First and last time for me he was speaking with a caller and the caller wanted to know where Savages anti gay stance came from....Savage asked the caller if he was a "sodomite"...I guess that's his special name for gay people and the caller said "Yes I am"...Savage preceded to spew ignorance....I changed the channel and started watching Johnny Bravo

If Michael Savage is ever diagnosed with a crippling disease, I will be one of the first people here to write "good riddance." He's of the same magnitude as Jesse Helms and Robert Novak when it comes to despicable beliefs.

His response was amazing. He explained that he can't tell his son to 'grow up and act like a man' because at the age of 10 his son has never spoken, nor has he ever been able to understand anything anyone has ever said to him.

Savage did go on to blame the 'liberal media' for taking him out of context. Our anchor responded back about how cowardly it was to not even account for himself and to blame the big bad media instead. "Act like a man, indeed," he wrote.
