Disney and Fox definatively say no to HD-DVD

Till one of these formats go down, there'll be no end to regular DVD.

There's no way I'm converting all 160 of my DVD's to another format anytime soon.

Do you guys cant read??? It upconverts your regular dvd's to HD!

Still don't care. I'm happy with regular DVD. I don't want to have to buy a ridiculously expensive HD TV.

If you go with HD DVD...you don't have to. The players not only play standard dvd's, but also upconvert them to your high resolution display.

Blu-Ray however, doesn't allow this. :o

Yes it does.

you will come the deadline (Febuary 17th 2009) when all broadcasts must be in HD.

DVD isn't selling like it used to and it's already a 10 year old format.

Some of you obviously don't own a HD TV. DVDs look fine on HDTVs but once you see the HD difference you are just floored. HD Discovery Channel is amazing. Its the only channel I watch now.

I highly doubt they will force that otherwise cable companies will loose alot of customers. People who dont care or want HD type stuff will learn & start donwloading their shows. I know I dont have to see a new episode asap. That would be a very stupid business decision forcing that on customers. There are plenty of alternatives for customers. Especially now with Amazon / Itunes offering the newest episodes for buying online shortly after airing. With everything slowly going computer digital downloading you wont need a cable service. Hell look at the download service on the XBOX 360 Live Marketplace for another examble.

Good. I'll use my TV to play videogames and watch DVDs and go to the pub to watch my sports teams.

Or I'll get Sirius Satellite radio for my sports fix

Ugh, this format war is going to take longer than I thought. Blu-Rays get a setback on PS3s, but then they get a boost from Disney and Fox. Till one comes out on top, I'm not investing a dime in either of them.

How are the PS3s a setback for blu-ray? IMO the fact that the PS3 has a built in blu-ray player is probably going to be the thing that gives blu-ray the edge. It'll almost definately be the first next gen format I buy for that reason, and it will be like that for quite a few people I suspect. Still, like you said, it will be some time before one is declared a winner.

It can really go either way! PS3 built in blue ray player or Xbox360 optional Hd-dvd.

But the Hd-DVD is just that, an add-on. While it keeps the price lower onteh 360, it in no way means that all 360 owners will have a HD-DVD, whereas all PS3 owners will have blu-ray. While not including the HD-DVD drive might have been a good move for Microsoft on a gaming perspective it's not as good from an HD-DVD perspective. (and just the opposite for Sony IMHO of course)

Must be the reason why Blue Ray is out selling HD in players and movies right?

It's a setback because there aren't enough shipments out to get to the masses. Hell, they barely sold a quarter of what their initial predictions were.
