You know... tarot, tea leaves, astrology, i-ching, numerology, runestones?

Or alternatively, what do you think of it.

I realize that those willing to admit are ok with subjecting themselves to potential ridicule.

I've been using Nordic runes for about two years now and I think basically they're awesome. I use them less for figuring out what's going to happen and more for helping me understand what is happening.

Anywho... discuss.

Hog wash. Then I read the soap bubbles to confirm I'm on the right path.
Now that the smart ass reply is out of the way...

The direction of life is made up of the path a person tries to follow, random chance, and how that person handles those events.

no.
no i don't.
i drink tea though... two lumps, not three.

random chance.
There's no such thing as random. Everything that happens in the universe, happens due to the result of a million variables all leading up until that point.

No, i only believe in Miss Cleo

I used to be incredibly proficient in the Tarot, Astrology, Numerology, and other things I'll withhold from mentioning here. But I eventually stopped.

I read my horoscope and hope it comes true. :csad:

I've taken a casual interest in tarot. The reading's I've gotten seem fairly accurate, so I've yet to rule it out.

My mother does, quite a bit, and I can see where she's coming from. You can get a great sense of security from feeling like you're taking control of the future to a small degree.

Even I throw salt over my doors and windows on halloween, just in case.

Astrology is bull****. The position of planets has no bearing on the direction of your life.

Except that we know the moon has a very distinctive effect on our moods. We're something like 80% water. If the moon can pull millions of gallons of water around and cause the tides, I think it can pull our hormones around.

Now think about the effect something millions of times bigger than the moon, with a much bigger graviational pull could have on us. Makes a little more sense that way.

I don't buy it. The planets are too far away from us to have any gravitational effect.

That's actually a scientifically proven fact. Society as a whole even responds to the phases of the moon. Crime is like 21% higher when there's a full moon and 26% lower when there's a new moon. Or some numbers similar to that, I can't remember the exact statistics.

Edit: Actually, I was wrong. Scientifically speaking, its not proven. But its widely believed to be true by various law enforcement agencies, one of which came up with those statistics based on the crime in their area and the times it took place.

Except that they're one of the things keeping our orbit regular, because everything is pulling against everything else.

Believe me, I know. I was in a psychiatric hospital full of women for six months. I dreaded full moon. I know the staff did too.

Also, hospitals have claimed that more women go into labor during the full moon, but a scientific study found no conclusive evidence of this.

I don't know about going into labour, but I know that everyone in hospital had their period on the full mood.

I kind of feel like yeah, we have 'control' over our future. But really who's to say that the decisions you make with your 'free will' aren't the ones you are intended to make anyway?

Being a puny little human being with a miniscule, arthropod sized intellect, I can't say I know anything about fate. Even if we do have free will, only one sequence of events happens in the future. Plus there's all kinds of stuff that is beyond our frail manipulative powers.

Anywho it's still fun and if you know how, it's a crowd pleaser at parties.

Is it just me or do alot more women seem to be into this stuff then men?

I think you're probably right, Hades. I think a lot of men just don't care. They're ok with rolling with the punches. I'd like to know the nature of the punch so I know how best to roll with it. :)

What, the one where you cut your tongue, lick a piece of paper and read meanings in the blood splotch? :(

Thank God for that 12 Step Occult Cessation Class at Betty Ford, eh?

No, that's just a party game, dude.

I don't do any of the things Babs mentioned, but I do occasionally visit a local psychic we have here who is SPOOKY in how accurate she tends to be. Soooo many of the things she's told me would occur in my life came to pass. Wild stuff. She's the real deal.
