Considering that the climax was set in a major city, the general public should realisticly be aware of the existence of the Transformers. But the ending of the film made it seem like the government was somehow able to cover it up. I'm thinking of the scene during end credits when Sam's parents are asked on what their thoughts are on the "suspected alien activity."

the whole world doesnt know about them because primes voice over says they are hiding in full view, secretly protecting humans.

The government wii probably try and explain it away as a failed experiment or something. Although how long they can keep the people believing this...only time and a sequel will tell.

I still have a hard time buying it. How could they realisticly cover up the destruction to the city itself and the number of people who may've been killed?

The whole world? No.

Mission City? Yes, but the government will try to "solve" the problem, but pretty much people know of the Autobots.

They called in the Men in Black.

Most likely the government said that all Transformers were killed in the battle.

Remember the alamo .. and Roswell.

The whole world should know. Prime was running down the street when Sector 7 was after him, they were seen during the highway chase and the final battle. To think that ppl are talking about these giant robots is just ludacris.

If they could fabricate the holocost, 9/11 and puerto rico then they could probably keep the TF on the low.

I mean......two MAJOR insurance claim nightmares I can think of off the top of my head will cause this to become public:

Whole Building Damage/Casualty, Injury, and Personal Loss when Megatron shuttled his and Optimus Prime's ass through the office high-rise building

-and-

Mr. Flicky McFlickinson, the guy whom Megatron flicked into the back of the cab car.

Big Time, Digg and Fark worthy Insurance Nightmares that NO one would be able to cover up. It is a big plot hole.

It was an earthquake and anyone who says other wise will either be payed to keep thier mouths shut or taken to the same place that Archibald Witwicky went to till they die...

We must also not forget the Xbox 360, Mountain Dew, and SUV decepticons still roaming around the city.

:o

I think we have a candidate for new leader of the Decepticons...Xboxitron

Well seeing transformers could be chalked up do to nerves in the line of disaster.
I mean really people were knocked out or running for their lives. Easier to make a group of people believe anything you want by discrediting what they saw.

where was it in the film that everything electronic was down, even phone lines? maybe that's how word didn't get around.

I wonder if people were all like:

"It's your mess! CLEAN IT!" <hands Optimus a shovel and waste container>

Per Roberto Orci, Sam's parents know the truth by the end of the film [he's talking about the "credits footage"]. :woot:
