He's gone into some fantasy and sci-fi a couple times, but for the most part he does the dark gothic thing, as well as supply Hot Topic with ideas for backpack patches. :o I'd like to see him do a drama or other type of film without any supernatural or fantasy characters, and see how he does.

I think he would do well with a straight up drama. Just look at the moments in big fish that aren't part of the "fantastical" parts of the film and its some very good stuff.

To quote The Man...'Nuff said.

^Yeah, I know about Ed Wood. I mean a movie that doesn't focus on weird ****.

But the characters (nor Burton himself, I"m sure) thought Wood and co. or their world was weird. The man just wanted to make movies and he honestly did and was living the dream. Any aspiring filmmaker can appreciate that, then. ;) :p

but thats wy he's burton, i don't want him to do a straight up drama, thats boring and a waste of his talents.

wierd **** is what he does.. and hes the best at it

All his damn movies are the same to me. Never really cared for the guy. I like Beetlejuice and Batman. thats about it.

Big Fish was amazing and one of his best movies...so good I saw it 3 times in theaters and I don't do to many repeat theaters veiwings. It was really touching and emotional even in the fantastical parts

I think if you don't like Big Fish you don't know anything about life.

LMAO

You heard it here first folks..the devil loved 'Big Fish'.

Ed Wood, Big Fish, and Planet of the Apes are all different in tone - particularly Apes...

It would be nice for Burton to reach out of his comfort zone and grow as an artist. Not ever gonna happen though.

One of the main reason he's lost a lot of core fans.

Some (including myself) would say that he has grown as an artist. Look at Batman and Ed Wood or Big Fish and they all have a different look and feel. Heck Planet of the Apes is the least "Tim Burton" Tim Burton movie.

Yeah, at least with most of his other films, there's a style that's uniquely his. The Planet of the Apes remake could have been directed by anyone had you not known beforehand who directed it. Even Elfman's music didn't feel like his.

It would be an interesting stretch for him I am sure. He obviously sticks to what he does best and stays in his comfort zone. Maybe he could try but if he failed he would never hear the end of it. Let him stay in his goth drama margin.

Yeah but you know what else is boring? the same stuff every movie

like take the sweeny todd trailer, the atmosphere reminds me of sleepy hollow, sweeny todd himself just looks like a combo of icchabod craine, and edward scissorhands, the aesthetics of that are reminiscent of nightmare before christmas....with all his different project he has, they all tend to be the same. He also chooses to bring is "unique" style to projects that don't need to be gothiced up, ruining such great settings as batman and planet of the apes, making the atmosphere gothic and almost musically theatric where it doesn't need to be

for my money Big Fish is his best film, cause its the least "him" movie he has made

I would agree with that. Most of his films tie together in theme and style so much they could almost be the same movies. Big Fish was a great departure from that.

I could see him doing like a thriller regarding a serial killer or something set in present day, but it would have that Burton touch to it, of cousre. I don't put Sweeney Todd in that category because it's a musical and is somewhat fantasy oriented. I just think he's done way too many adaptations as of late, and needs to come up with some more original material. IMDB claims his next movie is called The Spook's Apprentice, another book adaptation. Give us another Edward Scissorhands or something...or at least a new Pee-Wee. Hell, I wouldn't mind him doing another comic book movie, so long as it's something that's similar to his stylings.

The horro film market is not doing so well I think these days. A good original horror film is hard to find. Tim would have the creepy edge on the film no porblem....but would it be cheese?

And any creepy individual in his movie is always viewed as an anti-hero, even the Headless Horseman. Burton's shtick is that while his characters are viewed as monsters, they are just misunderstood.
