Hopefully after Phase 3 ends Marvel will take a similar approach. After a decade they need to branch out a little bit from one ongoing cinematic universe. Do some alternate universe films. Experiment. Marvel and Disney are well enough off that even if experimenting fails it wont kill the studio or even dent Disney.

Posted this in another thread but yeah I basically agree:

Fox has figured out something that I wish more studios, Marvel included, would do: cut the budgets down and make superhero movies more interesting.

I'm not sure you even need to do alternate universe films to make that work. Picture a Man-thing horror movie, a detective/journalist thriller (think Zodiac) centered around the Sin-eater, a rom-com, etc.

Here is a crazy thought for the MCU, how about they actually CONNECT their connected universe? All the shows just barely referencing things isn't really connecting and usually seems either half-assed or forced.

Write those contracts with stipulations that they have to make time for an appearances in other mediums. Not expecting full on story arcs for all of them but having them pop in for guest appearance in an episode would go a really long way and they have enough actors that they could spread it out so it shouldn't be a burden on all of them.
