Horror Doug Liman to direct Stephen King’s The Stand

Whilst Ben Affleck may indeed have been the bomb in Phantoms, yo. He's still not a fit for Stu Redman and while I rate him fairly highly with his directorial skills this is a pretty damn big project and there's others I'd prefer to see get it.

I'm disappointed that yates apparently fell through, but Afleck is a great director, and given some good material he can put in a good performance as well. or maybe he could cast his brother.

Afleck stepping out of his comfort zone of boston crime drama. Hopefully he can prove himself.

Just don't have jay and silent bob in this movie or the rest of the mall rats cast.

yeah, i don't think affleck ever really has anybody from the kevin smith troupe in any of non-kevin smith movies.

Do you hail from some strange universe where Affleck regularly peppers his films with Kevin Smith cameos? Because otherwise that's a rather stupid comment.

They will all want a part, because they know that this will be a huge movie and it will make their careers get huge. And there are lots of characters to cast.

you're thinking in a drastically hypothetical mindset. nothing in ben afflecks directorial efforts has lent any merit to what you saying.

Since AMC kind of unceremoniously ****ed Frank Darabont over when it comes to The Walking Dead, he would definitely be the perfect guy, if Yates is no longer in play. I look at TWD sometimes and just think "Goddammit. This is what I want. THIS!!!"

Michael Rooker can be in it.

I'd be perfectly alright with Rooker, Jason Lee, and Ethan Suplee. Granted, I don't know the characters from the books. But I wouldn't be outraged, but happy, if those fine folks had a part.

Let's be honest. This probably won't happen, just like IT. Ben Affleck is probably on the very bottom of the list for people adequate enough to do this.

David Yates had me thrilled. The only person who can save this project is Frank Darabont.

Stone the non-believer! :cmad:

Co-Writer of Good Will Hunting.
Directed Gone Baby Gone.
Directed The Town.

Not a good enough resume for a 1,000+ page Stephen King epic.

It's like that time they gave Lord of the Rings to the Dead Alive guy.

That's different though, because Jackson expressed his profound obsession and love for LotR, so he was essentially a true fanboy who happened to be a director too. And he delved into special effects, fantasy, and sci-fi elements beforehand.

Affleck has two Boston crime dramas under his belt, and probably hasn't read The Stand in a while. He's far from an obsessed fanboy like Jackson was. This is really apples and oranges.

Well, we really have no idea about how much Affleck cares about the Stand. He may have never read it at all. Or he may go to sleep with it right next to his bed. Who knows...

We do know he was a DareDevil fanboy... and we saw how that turned out...

You know who else I would like for this besides Frank Darabont? Rob Reiner. Hear me out. This guy is in major need of a comeback, a MAJOR comeback, and he's given us two Stephen King classics with Stand By Me and Misery, the latter being a horror/thriller that was handled perfectly. Plus, he's given us A Few Good Men, and When Harry Met Sally. He's a damn fine director who's gotten caught up in crappy movies lately.

Most importantly, The Stand is NOT really an action shoot-em-up, nor is it straight horror. There's not really a ton of Michael Bay explosions, there are no giant creatures. The Stand is really a slow-paced human drama. That's right up Reiner's alley. He's given us some damn good interactions between everyday human beings.

And, King himself has gone on record saying that Stand By Me is the best movie of his own work ever made, and has put Misery in his Top 10 movies based on his own work.

Now, Frank Darbont on the other hand, has given us The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, and The Mist.

Stand By Me
Misery
The Shawshank Redemption
The Green Mile
The Mist

To me, it's undeniable that one of these two directors would be absolutely ideal.
