Sci-Fi Dune: Prophecy

I wondered if that bit of the book was going to be touched on...

Interesting look at abomination, and presumebly where the name came from.

6 episodes feels too short. I fear the finale is going to be rushed.

Yeah, I was surprised to see such a short season. Maybe it's really expensive to make.

Thirded- I was surprised to see that next Sunday's episode is the finale!

They completely scrapped two months worth of filming after changing the director of the first two episodes and two female leads. They were also in hiatus for at least five months, reshaping the show, before they started shooting again during the strikes. All those things costed extra money on top of it being already pretty expensive, so I guess they couldn't afford more than six episodes for this season.

Hart
may not be a Tleilaxu creation after all.

The Omnius plague :eyeroll:

I've really enjoyed the season so far, but I do worry about whether they can properly wrap it up next week. Though, all the minor storylines are finished or merged into larger ones at this point. Fingers crossed!

I hope they wrap it up and I hope it gets a second season since I feel like they won’t be able to resolve everything.

I know people are really mixed on this show but I’ve really been digging it. As someone not all that well-versed on Dune lore, I don’t really find it too hard to follow. I’m just not sure how close some of this stuff sticks to the books and all that.

Anyway, great episode. The actress who plays Lila absolutely crushed it playing a completely different character. I also really dig everything with Kieran, Mikaela and Ynez. Those three are probably my favorite “good” characters (if anyone is truly a good character here). Also, Francesca made quite an entrance. It’s amusing to see Javicco not even try to hide his adoration for her while Natalya is standing right there. I guess Natalya is going to be getting some of that deranged Desmond action now.

Not a huge reveal (to us at least) about Desmond’s identity, though it makes sense why he wants revenge on the Sisterhood. I’m just going to pretend that I don’t know that Travis Fimmel is only 11 years younger than Olivia Williams lol. I’m guessing that Desmond is supposed to be much younger than Fimmel’s real age; I suppose getting swallowed by a sandworm drastically ages a person.

Hopefully it gets a longer episode count. As for the show, I think it's pretty good. Not great, but I do follow it from week to week and it's got some good performances.

Glad to hear it's getting a 2nd season. The first is slow but it does feel like it's building towards something.

Is this worth watching?

Its okay. I really like it when it gets into the fun and intrigue of the Imperium politics. But it does take quite directly from the nu Dune books, which is being generious, a mixed bag. But it is also getting into the WEIRD Dune ****, which is kinda fun.

Well finally got caught up on the series. I just love the world. I could watch anything happening in this setting. It just looks awesome. Great mix of sci fi with old style architecture. Just a few shots from the most recent episodes.

Well, sure am glad it got renewed.

Not exactly how I predicted it would go. Nice to get an actual Tleilaxu name drop. Though Desmond's memory heavily hints at him not being a complete Tleilaxu creation, as they are a bit... fanatical about not using thinking machines. Also, ewww.....

I think it is a bit of a mistake for them to go to Arrakis. Yeah, 1000 years before, but Villenueve has set up such a visual style for the planet, especially in the desert, that it is going to disappoint fans. Also betting Valya and co are going to run into Vorian.

I get the feeling that Valya expected Francesca to not go through with killing Javinco, but planted enough doubt in his head that he would kill himself anyway.

More like 10000 years before. This show is around 100/200 years after the Butlerian Jihad if I'm not mistaken. Paul story starts in year 10191.

Anyway, they still drop good Dune vernacular such as Prana Bindu and Mentat. Sets are good.

Toward the end of the episode, I was almost waiting Valya to also create The Litany Against Fear (her discovering The Voice was already too much).

After all, The Tleilaxu seem just to be background stuff.

@Sithborg : as you posted before about Ominus and Erasmus, I get the feeling that the show will use Erasmus as the one who tinkered Desmont. I hope I'm wrong.

Myself, I still don't like how the Bene Gesserit Order is pictured. The show Reverand Mothers are way too emotional and I very much don't like how an instable sister such as Valya became Mother Superior using lies and murder but they are using Brian Herbert books as inspiration so no wonder either.

Too an extent, this is still the early Sisterhood. And they've never been Vulcan. It can be tough to remember if you've read all 6 books, but that the Sisterhood was fairly villainous in the early books.

The ending is what got me excited the most and I definitely can't wait for Season 2. I really enjoyed this show overall and while its not on the level of Villeneuve's movies I'll take as much of this universe as I can get.

I still consider this quality Dune content and would put it on par with Children of Dune although this show easily blows that miniseries away in terms of writing, acting and production value.

I still love Children of Dune though.

I didn't know it only had 6 episodes. That was a shock, seeing this was the end. Well at least it got renewed.

I know the original books pretty well but not the Brian Herbert stuff (I read a couple of his books but not all ) and I never considered The Bene Gesserit as villainous.
They do what they have to do given the social order they live in to ensure their goal to better humanity and avoid the most ruthless side of The Great Houses, even Atreides.
