Sci-Fi Dune: Prophecy

Who said anything about their interpretation? Frank Herbert is the one who came up with the Butlerian Jihad.

But it was Brian Herbet & Co who wrote a book about it and provided more details and it was not very good.
Same with this show and the Harkonnen sisters founders of the Bene Gesserit.
They even presented the Harkonnen cowardice act at The Battle of Corin as a gesture of mercy, presenting the Atreides as ruthless and heartless.

Probably the best trailer I've seen so far for the series and I know it's also HBO but it feels very ' HOTD' coded (which works for it I guess)

Sorry, visually looks so generic after the Villeneuve movies. And the story does seem more Brian Herbert than Frank Herbert so I don’t know if this will be interesting enough for an entire series.

It's certainly a bummer but not even a little bit surprising considering all the behind the scenes hurdle, the last minute creative changes by the studio and the people who eventually took over.

This has forced me to keep my expectations low as well. All reviews say the lore and story are very dense though, some even say there's too much, which is sure to hold my interest. It might make the show less accessible though.

Six episodes probably won't help in this either. Let's hope that possible subsequent seasons improve on the series problems.

True, though I did see that the episodes are all about 70 minutes at least. Definitely hope it does well enough for a second season!

Oh god. The Great Machine Wars. **** off, why run from the Butlerian Jihad? I gave it a pass in Dune 2, because it was still a holy war. And only 150 years post Jihad? With hints of showing that whatever drivel Brian and KJA dreamt up with? So help me god if I hear the name Omnius or Erasmus....

I know not everyone loves the Brian Herbert and KJA books, but they've also been writing Dune for 25+ years now. There was no way they wouldn't use some of that material for a show based on one of the prequel books. Especially since Frank Herbert had almost zero interest in the world before the start of the first book. It was either make it up from scratch, base it on these books or don't make this show at all. It's pretty clear which one they chose. That said, the prequel books I've read felt more generic and lacked some of the depth and subtext of Frank Herbert's books.

Using the word Jihad would have been controversial in this day and age, unfortunality (hence they didn't use it in the movies too ).
The people not knowing the books may not understand what it means, what the Butlerian Jihad was, why "Butlerian" etc, it would have to be explained that it was a war against the thinking machines.
I don't like it either that the term was removed from the movies and show.
