DVD Drive not recognizing DVDs

My DVD Drive stopped reconizing DVDs for some reason. And when I go to My Computer the drive shows up as Compact Disc. Anyone know how to fix this problem?

open ur computer to make sure all ur cables are connected correctly

Actually it's an external drive.

what kind of DVDs are you playing? sometimes when i burn dvds the burned dvd sometimes wont work

It won't recognize any type of DVD.

sounds like teh drivers a broken. When did it start happening. If you havent installed anything lately then you might want to try a roll back to a earlier version if your using XP. If not you will have to reinstall the driver.

If it's DVD's that the drive previously played then you may be able to fix it with a system restore.

Stupid as it sounds try turning your PC off then on again (after a short rest) sometimes this works.

If not try asking on Yahoo answers, if your not a member to save you joining up i'll ask for you.
