Sure they made that horrible movie, sure they've ****ed their images out in merchandising... but no one puts on a bigger, better show than these 4 NYers. Arrogant, flamboyant, audacious.... Here is my tribute to KISS.

Ace Frehley - The Bronx
Peter Criss - Brooklyn
Gene Simmons - Brooklyn
Paul Stanley - Queens

I've always found their music to be substandard rock and roll, nothing really impressive

their shows are a whole totally different thing altogether

it's a shame for the last ten years of the band, really

even they know they're not known for thier musical talent.. or lack there of.... the spectacle they make and how ****ing loud their shows are... I remember they played a show in 96 by the brooklyn bridge... the freaking streets were shaking.

so, is it valid to cover with gobs of volume your lack of talent?

it's just like wrestling, all sweat, fire, violence, flashiness and what not

but no talent anywhere

One thing that Gene, Paul, Peter, and Ace can't be denied is their showmanship. [Even to a lesser extent, Eric].

My dad is a hardcore KISS fan. Kiss Army, went to school dressed as Gene Simmons, the works. Matter of fact, he gave me his batwing cape, and I attached it to my sleeveless trenchcoat back in High School.

well how many talentless artists are out there selling records? The Backstreet boys have talent? Other than shaping their beards in triangles and octogons?

I went to that one Kiss concert in Brooklyn and I went cause I knew a lot of thier songs but it was also to experience the actual show. Personally I love thier songs.

Of course the music kinda sucked, but it was the show overall that made KISS legendary. I'm glad vh1 is doing that special on them.

I watched that special "when KISS ruled the world"... lots of great interviews from the original band.

I've seen them 5x in concert. Twice with the original line up. I've never been disappointed by their performances yet. When they show up to play, you get your money's worth.

They put on a show and I like their music a lot.

Good call for discussion topic, Eq!

Eric is ten times the drummer of Peter. It's just not 'cool' to point it out.

Read again, friend. I never said Eric was a bad drummer. I just said he's not quite as "showy" as the originals when they get together.

This is gonna sound lame but I've actually enjoyed VH1 this month and their tribute to Heavy Metal. I learned a lot.. A LOT about the history of the music and about a lot of the great songs and bands.

Great thread, I've been a KISS fan for years and have seen them 14 times in concert, including the KICK-OFF to the Reunion Tour in 1996 at the old Tiger Stadium.

I think saying that Kiss music sucks is like saying that Bob Dylan is a bad singer.
Yes, technically nothing to do back-flips over, but the personality coming through in the songs is unlike anything.

Also, PLAS, Gene Simmons idolizes Paul McCartney and if you actually listen to his bass lines, some of them are really smart and Beatlesesque.

I also like how you have these ugly dorks, but they HAVE to be stars, so they get the brilliant idea to become a masked superhero team.

This chick at my work was there. For a week it was all she'd talk about and she'd greet me with devil-horns every single morning and on the way to lunch and getting back from lunch. But the b**** didn't even mention KISS.

lol, d00dz. There's a Metallica appreciation thread.
The last thing I want to hear about is Metallica when I come to a thread dedicated to a COOL band.
