Fantastic Four: First Steps General News & Discussion Thread (TAG SPOILERS)

Yeah, The Marvels failed in execution. I don’t think the story was wrong, it was just the details (or the lack of attention paid to them).

MCU needs a shot in the arm & it looks as if Deadpool is the one to give it

The Krasinski thing was just bafflingly dumb. Either make that a different character or maybe use Ioan Gruffud there. Making that Krasinski was too inside baseball and just confused most of your audience
It appears that Kevin Feige aimed to appease long-time fans who have eagerly anticipated seeing John Krasinski as Reed Richards. However, utilizing Krasinski solely as a variant cameo feels like a missed opportunity. Just a taste. While I comprehend Feige's intentions and acknowledge some level of success, Krasinski's portrayal of Richards only left me, along with many other fans, yearning for more of him in the MCU.

Krasinski completed all his scenes for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in just one day, filmed against green screens without any other actors to play off of and without sufficient preparation time. Although it was a brief cameo, it felt like a squandered prospect for future Fantastic Four MCU films. Krasinski possesses not only leading man qualities but also charm, likeability, and a diverse array of past projects that demonstrate his versatility across different genres.

That being said, the likely casting of Pedro Pascal instills optimism that we will witness an exceptional portrayal of Reed Richards. Pascal's selection may come as a surprise, but truthfully, if Krasinski is not an option, Pascal is an outstanding actor who is certainly a welcomed choice.

Agreed--the Illuminati would have worked so much if they leaned more into stuff like Captain Carter and Captain Marvel (Maria Rambeau). That's using the universe you've already built up to fun effect with a multiverse.

Who cares about Black Bolt? And though I love seeing Patrick Stewart in a yellow hover chair, it made no sense for Professor X to just randomly pop up like that.

I think the Illuminati should have been:

- Superior Iron Man (most likely not RDJ, but maybe Cruise or Olyphant)
- Sorcerer Supreme (Karl Mordo / Chiwetel Ejiofor)
- Maestro (Mark Ruffalo, Eric Bana, or Ed Norton)
- Captain Carter
- Captain Marvel (Maria Rambeau / Lashana Lynch)
- Balder (played by Daniel Craig)

Everyone dies and then you either have a revenge-driven Maestro or Superior Iron Man to be your big Multiverse Saga bad instead of Kang. But that's coulda woulda shoulda

The Illuminati lineup was really a missed opportunity in not having some form of Iron Man or even other members like Beast.

But...I will admit that seeing Anson Mount in a proper Black Bolt outfit was nice at least.

Let’s make this our official press release to Marvel from the fans. Very diplomatically written.

We the undersigned fans agree with this,

Stark Bauer aka Jack Knight aka Ninja Knight

I generally like to think that Marvel understands that F4 is the one project they need to knock out of the park. Of course, if F4 turns out bad or just mediocre it won’t automatically spell the end of Marvel Studios, but I think given the pretty hit-or-miss track record of Marvel as of late and some of the good will they’ve lost as a result a F4 movie under-delivering I think would be a major blemish on their reputation, especially since it’s one of their highly anticipated projects.

Though to be honest, I’d say the stakes are much higher for Fantastic Four as a property than Marvel Studios as a company. If Marvel Studios, the company that managed to pull off a movie with a tree and a talking raccoon can’t even pull off a Fantastic Four film then that will be seen as the final nail in the coffin for the property. Granted, you might still see the characters crossover into other movies and shows but any hope of them being a movie franchise on their own will be dead in the water.

This is why they have to swing, hit, and make an unabashed home run with F4.

Eh, in general, I am sure they want to make a good FF movie. But I don't think they view FF like fans do. I don't think they see it as a potential Iron Man or Avengers and such. I think for them, it's middle of the pack importance. They probably view Doom as a bigger chip down the line than the actual FF. That's just my opinion

With Pascal being cast, I wonder if we are going to get a badass Reed this time around, with a military background.

He was originally a WWII vet before the sliding timescale of the comics wiped that away.
Could be an interesting change to what we’ve had to date.

Yeah, a "what if" line-up of sorts would've made a lot more sense. I'm assuming they weren't able to get back Bridges, but I would've liked to have seen Iron Monger as part of the team like they had planned at an earlier point.

Oh that’s cool, I hadn’t heard about Bridges. Any other cameos that were rumored?

Daniel Craig as Balder is the only one I'm aware of. I wouldn't mind seeing them dust that casting off for Thor 5.

If you're interested you should be able to eaily find the unused storyboard for Iron Monger. It looks like it was going to be a variation on the Illuminate assemble scene. It included Balder, Captain Carter, and Captain Rambeau too.
