Fantastic Four: First Steps General News & Discussion Thread (TAG SPOILERS)

If you need something to tide you over, I learned last night that Disney+ has the first five minutes of the movie on there as "Fantastic Four: First Steps - A Special Look" if you want to see the opening montage again.
Cool. I didn’t know that. I’m out of town for the weekend for a wedding, but brought my computer/HDMI cable with me so I’ll check that out tonight. I’ll be back Sunday, but I’m going to wait until cheapo Tuesdays to go see it. Lol. They are showing the 3-D/XD version at the local Cinemark Theatre for just over 12 bucks. Unlike most, I’m a 3-D fan. I’m totally stoked about going and wish they’d get that goddamn wedding over with. Lol. some people just don’t have the proper priorities in their life.:funny:

Really good 8/10

I still think the 2000s F4 had better written material during their interactions which gave them more chemistry and comradry. But other than that, First Steps is the best overall presentation of the F4 on screen.

I think both were good given the time they were in. 00's FF were relatively younger, still new to their powers, newfound fame. While First Steps is VERY lived in so the dynamics are a bit more played down.

6/10. The bar is really really low. We'll never get the Phase 1 quality again. The fact that they didn't use the Ultimate Nullifier is beyond me.

Phase 1 wasn't that great. Only Iron-Man and The Avengers were great movies. Phase 2 was the best phase so far, IMO, just barely ahead of 3. And Thunderbolts and FF:FS were both that level of quality.

Thor 1 and Cap 1 was also pretty good, with high stakes and good repercussions. Thunderbolts and FF being same level I agree with and I don't think it's amazing. Sub-optimal at best. This movie really needed another 10-15 Minutes.

I love Thor and TFA, but FF I think was better than both.

I rarely see movies twice in theaters anymore but I'm really debating going to see this a second time if only just to see the third act with the team taking on Galactus again.
I need to see it again on the biggest screen I can find just to see Surfer riding a flaming wave of a black hole again. I'm pretty certain my soul elevated from my seat at that point as my brain exploded from the visuals.

That whole space sequence in the second act from encountering Galactus to Franklin's birth was a thrill ride.

Can’t say this enough:

I loved Sue’s speech to the crowd outside of the Baxter Building about Franklin. Very good monologue and I loved Kirby’s delivery.

The fact that absolutely nobody from the crowd objected to what she said lol...they didn't set up the mechanics of that universe properly.

Because she won them over with her words and speaking from the heart.

And I disagree with the bolded, but it's whatever.

And what was wrong with that? Galactus got a shot in on one of our heroes and was terrifying in doing so.
Reed's elasticity basically makes him invincible even on a molecular level so that scene made zero sense. He can technically span over multiple football fields. Like I said, the mechanics are way off and their power levels are worse than all the iterations from the comics.

FF is different, but not better no way. I found Cap's sacrifice + Bucky's fall and Loki's fall while Thor watches on way more compelling than anything in FF.
You're def entitled to your opinion, but I don't agree. Visually, FF is a better movie. Asgard in Thor is limited to like 6 rooms and FF just a more distinct vibe and visual style. Galactus was a better villain than Red Skull, though Loki probably was best villain of the 3 but it's close to me. Thor also has a cheapness to it with the New Mexico town that looks like a cheap set. Cap looks a lot better than Thor, but there is a flaw in act 2 where they montage essentially the entire war against Hydra. I don't think they could have done it any other way, but it does give the conflict a rushed feeling. So in the end, FF I def think trumps both movies

It's a movie though, not the comics. They are going to make changes, and I think this one doesn't register as a flaw to me. If Reed is invincible, then why should you care if he is in danger?

Fair assessment overall. I just was more connected with those characters than with the F4 in this one and mind you I love the F4. I feel the flaw's in F4 mainly lies in the third act. Like setting up the teleportation system felt rushed and just giving us the egg reference didn't cut it for me. Just an example.

For me, the flaws I would have had with FF were in Act 1 cause I can feel some reworked choppiness in the beginning, but once we get to Act 2, I was pretty locked into the story and the characters, so I connected with everyone and everything pretty easily.

I don't mind him not ever being danger cause of his powers. I would care for him if he lost someone like he almost did Sue in this one. Or even how he grapples with guilt for all the decisions he has to make, that they do bring up in the film. They should have leaned more into that. Galactus stretching his into ultimate pain was too off for someone who's power is basically stretching to infinity.
