Fantastic Four: First Steps General News & Discussion Thread (TAG SPOILERS)

I also want to add this: it’s seems clear that at least a decent portion of Avengers: Doomsday will occur on Earth 828 with the Fantastic Four. Doom is hailing from their universe. First Steps references Latveria, and we have its mid-credit scene to confirm this.

Now…how exactly he (and they) will end up in the 616 universe remains to be seen (cue the Thunderbolts mid credit scene?). But that is why I think Doomsday is actually going to be a huge origin story dedicated to Dr. Doom, and not necessarily a cameo/nostalgic love fest we may be anticipating.

Feige said we will see more people in that kitchen.

I just need the Russos to NOT do to Sue what they did to Gamora and Natasha.

There will be hell to pay.

I’m curious how they’ll build anticipation and excitement for Doomsday.

Other than people like us, does anyone care about Doomsday?

For Infinity War, they were riding a wave of hugely popular films. The environment is quite a bit different for Doomsday.

And I think RDJ’s involvement may cause more confusion than enthusiasm.

Yeah, people like him, but they like him as Tony Stark.

Unless there’s some plan to lead into it that we haven’t seen yet, I’m having trouble seeng a lot of enthusiasm. 🤷‍♂️
I've heard some people say that they wont even venture into a cinema to see another comic book movie until the new X-Men show up, they just dont have the interest post Endgame in the other stuff.

Granted thats a very small sample size but the interest has tailed off since then generally amongst friends who used to go to every single one of these. Its now a lot more random with stuff coming to Disney+ at such a faster rate, people are prepared to wait a bit.

Spiderman will be an interesting prospect to see how that fairs in the market considering he is a much bigger IP than any of the ones we have had this year from Marvel, he is more on Supes level but if he cant encourage people out to the cinema then DD might be in for a struggle even more. The build up to it has just been more rocky and less enthusiastic as perhaps they have struggled to engage new fans as the others get older and drop off.

Deadpool & Wolverine earned a billion last year. Avengers should be able to do the same. Spider-Man too.

As long as they don't venture again in projects like Thunderbolts* and a Sam Wilson movie, they should be able to slow down the public's disinterest. Blade isn't happening in the next 2 years. Armor Wars is probably canceled. Then that just leaves the X-Men reboot and the obvious sequels - Deadpool 4, Dr. Strange 3, Black Panther 3, Fantastic 4: Second Steps and if its still happening, Shang-Chi 2.

Both have the potential obviously but at the moment nothing seems certain even with great reviews. This Avengers film doesnt have the hype building to it like the last four did, Spiderman seems more likely at this moment out of the two but it depends what other films are out and around the same time too. D&W was in a unique position of bringing two legacy characters together and RR and his team have insane levels of hype building and PR for the Deadpool character to "maximize efforts".

There would be hype as we get to the release and when they start releasing promo materials.

The cast announcement of Doomsday was successful and generated a lot of buzz for Doomsday. It is the biggest movie of 2026.

Not sure I follow. What kitchen? The one with Sue and Herbie in the middle-credits scene? Where did he say this?

He mentions it in the 2nd to the last question.

I kinda wish they hadn't touched up Galactus with CGI so much, and used a more traditional approach of green screen.

I enjoyed Fantastic Four. I'd ultimately give it a positive review but I am disappointed that it was rushed and half-baked.

Kinda feels like I was seated next to a table at a restaurant that I can tell is having fun but I don't know them.

Introducing us to this world and cast through quick news-clip montages and scenes that don't last longer than 45 seconds was a weak opener and I don't think the movie ever fully recovered from that.

But Sue and Johnny ended up being standouts for me, and as a new father there were several moments I was 100% in the bag for.

The sequence may've been terrible for all I know, but cutting the opening fight with the Red Ghost feels like it was a mistake.

Going off some the footage from the trailers, starting off with them going on the show, showing their origin and past battles, and then getting the alert about the Super Apes attacking seems to me as a stronger opening.

The opening of the film is so clearly cut to shreds, it's kind of distracting. Feeling didn't leave me for a good 30 mins.
It bothered me the whole movie and again I really don't know if there's a scene longer than 60 seconds until they're in space heading towards Galactus. Just nothing to really grab onto until you're basically done with the first act.

Someone here said it feels like it was screen-tested for the iPad generation and I think that might be true. If this had come out in phase 1 with the same basic story and production values it'd be a night and day difference.

And it's a damn shame cause there's a really great FF movie in here! I have a feeling I'll be a lot kinder on a rewatch. I really did come out of it loving Sue and Johnny, the Surfer and Galactus were awesome, the world was dazzling, there's so much here to love, I just wish they remembered how to tell a damn story like they used to.

Exactly. It’s frustrating, because even with the terrible editing, it’s still a very good film.

With better editing and pacing, it could have been great.

With all the money and effort they put into this, it’s a shame that they missed the target because of relatively simple things that could have and should have been done better.
