OK, I must confess...I got bored this weekend and rented Flight of the Living Dead.
It is indeed a low-budget cheapie, and it really doesn't bring anything new to the zombie genre, but it was entertaining in a dumb-fun kind of way. It was better than the dull crap movies you see on Sci-Fi channel.
The zombies are of the "Dawn of the Dead" 2003 variety, so they run fast, snarl a lot, and have yellow eyes that look more demonic than dead. There are plenty of character actors that you'll recognize from other schlocky-fun monster flicks like Deep Rising. The acting is, of course, quite laughable. The zombie effects are OK - nothing in the Tom Savini range, but enough ripped flesh to satisfy a mild gore craving.
One annoying thing was that some zombies seemed to drop after getting shot several times in the gut, while others required a head-shot to go down. Plus, all that wild gunfire inside the plane, and no one ever seemed worried about breaking a window and depresurizing the whole cabin, but whatever.
rating 7/10 - worth Netflixing for zombie fans, but don't pay in-store Blockbuster prices for it.
