For fans of Hong Kong Cinema...Sha Po Lang (synopsis, pictures, trailer)

Ok, so I have the Chinese Deltamac DVD already, but it only has the Making of and the Footage from Hong Kong Press Conference for launch of SPL.
The other extras sound like MUST HAVES for me.
Commentary with Donnie Yen AND Bey Logan? I am so there :up:
Doesn't seem like the movie is going cut, so yay!

Looks like the Weinstein's Dragon Dynasty DVD series will actually be great, I mean, judging from the extras, they could give UK's Hong Kong Legends a run for its money! :up:

Last I heard, they were doing proper releases of Jackie Chan's Drunken Master 2 and Yuen Wo Ping's Fist of Legend (with Jet Li), so I really really REALLY cannot wait :up:

Here's some SPL clips for you guys, I hope you enjoy them.

Wu Jing is a badass

Donnie Yen vs. Wu Jing!

Donnie Yen vs. Sammo Hung. A classic.

Trailer.

It's Good News / Bad News For Sha Po Lang In North America

First, the bad news. The Brothers Weinstein have re-titled Sha Po Lang to Kill Zone for it's US release. Not only does undercut the overall point of the film - the original title was a reference to Chinese astrology that categorizes the characters - but it just kind of sounds lurid and trashy.

The good news? They weren't kidding when they said they were loading the release up. It's a two disc set including:

* Commentary with Donnie Yen and Hong Kong Expert Bey Logan
* Born to be Bad: Interview with Martial Arts Legend Sammo Hung
* First Amongst Equals: Featurette with Star and Action Director Donnie Yen
* Echoes of Darkness: Interview with co-star Simon Yam
* A Dragon Rising: Interview with SPL villain Jackie Wu
* A Man Apart: Interview with Director Wilson Yip
* Never Seen Before Footage
* SPL Making Of Documentary
* Breaking News: Footage from Hong Kong Press Conference for launch of SPL
* Trailer Gallery
* Master in Motion: Martial Arts demonstration by Wu Shu impressario Jacki Wu

It's anamorphic 1.85:1 and includes DTS sound. No word on run time. So, assuming there are no cuts made - and I haven't heard any suggestions that there have been - once you put the retitling aside the Weinstein's have actually gone and put together a domestic DVD release of an Asian film that outdoes the Asian release of that same film. That's a first. The DVD releases in September

About damn time lol. I couldn't take waiting anymore and downloaded this movie a few months ago and burned it to DVD. I'll gladly replace the bootleg with this version though...especially for the DTS track :up:

Donnie Yen vs. Wu Jing!

Definitely one of my Top 5 favorite fight scenes of all time. I love Donnie and Wu Jing start improvising around the 1:15 mark.

So I should pick this up as a blind buy come september :confused:

Movies, as someone who has disagreed with you in some cases, but agreed with you in some (more important) others , I should tell you that yeah, you should.

Gammy liking things like Resident Evil and Blade = Geek Gammy :o
I know it's trashy cinema, I love movies like Brazil, Casablanca or Raging Bull.
Meh, ok, you get the point.

First off I absolutely love Blade 2, and I also dig Blade 1. Resident Evil I liked as well... Don't believe me check my dvd collection which I posted.

Oh ok, well it was something like that.

But we did agree that French Connection was genius, and because of YOU, I got rid of my special edition of FC1 and ordered the 3 disc set of FC1 and FC2, cause I gotta see Popeye hooked on heroine.

Anyway, Sha Po Lang is fantastic.
Sure, it might not be the most original HK crime drama, but everything still works so well, IMO.

I dig HK films especially John Woo's the Killer and I dug Internal Affairs as well.

I need to see Infernal Affairs 2 and 3 :(
Maybe I'll buy one of those box sets :up:

The Killer, Hardboiled, ABT1 and 2 = My favorite Woo films.

Beginning suck, the story unfolds slowly and is really cliche... However if you have the tolerance to suffer through 30 minutes, the story starts to build, THERE'S FINALLY A MARTIAL ARTS FIGHT! It still slow but now the ball is rolling. Once people start dying the movie becomes awesome and finally figures out it's a martial arts movie. And it has some of the coolest Martial Arts Fights ever, the ending is kick ass! With that said, you grow for the characters, and your left feeling satisfied, I'd give it a 6.5/10. Is it a master-piece? No... Does it take itself too seriously? Yes... But it's entertaining and has some of the coolest fights I've ever seen :up:
