BREAKING…This would be a nuclear option for News Corp, which owns 27 TV stations and serves dozens of affiliates. But the company COO’s threat to take Fox off the public airwaves — made today at the NAB annual confab in Las Vegas — suggests how deeply concerned broadcast moguls are about the possibility that they might lose their legal battle against Aereo, and how much that could undermine their ability to extract retransmission consent fees from cable and satellite providers. Aereo uses tiny antennas to capture broadcasters’ over-the-air signals which it then streams to local subscribers. It does so without TV stations’ permission, and without paying them a dime. Broadcasters say that violates their copyrights. But last week a U.S. Appeals Court rejected the industry’s plea to shutter Aereo during the trial over that claim. What’s more, it seemed to favor Aereo’s counterargument that it simply rents antennas, enabling customers to watch transmissions already available to them for free.

Yeah good luck with that, Fox.

I only watch American Dad and I can stream that on Netflix. Good riddance. No more NFL for you.

yeah, I think football games are all that I even watch on Fox now.

This one of the few times I have to completely agree with ETM's assessment of things. This guy sounds like he's being a baby.

Um ok. They would sink so bad so fast. Their shows aren't that great anymore. I don't even think they would be missed. NBC is probably cheering them on to become a pay for channel.

Them losing the NFL would be a pretty big hit. This is like watching a kid hold its breath. The NFL will give them a good slap. I would like to see them try it and fail spectacularly tho.

If we agree on things one more time, I heard Hell freezes over :o

DON'T BE ABSURD!

It's already freezing over as we speak. :o

There's a update to this. Now it's another network holding it's breath.

That may sound like a doomsday scenario, but it’s happening, says Garth Ancier, a former top-level executive at NBC, Fox and WB. A Reuters story about the threats posed by Aereo and Dish Network’s ad-skipping Hopper DVR to the broadcast business model quoted Ancier making the claim that two of the Big Four networks — ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox — have for months been evaluating whether they might be better off becoming, in effect, cable channels.

:palps: go ahead and try it. Go ahead. I don't give a crap.

Bwahaha CBS and ABC? Yeah, cause college basketball, the NBA, MLB, and thr NFL are all going to say "ok then" when the networks tell them they lost half their viewers for this stupidity. They will rip them a new *******. I will gladly drop all of these networks. Bring it on!

One thing is for damn sure, piracy is going to go through the roof, and advertisers are going to be pissed.

Edit: perhaps I am underestimating middle aged women and their love of reality tv. They would prolly pay just to know who got voted off american vocal top star dancer island.

I'd just get the MLB packages and NFL packages from those respective Cable Networks to spite them.

Yeah, aside from losing the sports, they'd also have to seriously raise the quality of their scripted programming if they're gonna throw their hats into the same arena as the cable networks. Cuz right now, the only thing giving their shows the advantage with the ratings is the fact that they're free.

THIS lol. I'm currently watching US shows, overseas shows, and any show really by pirating. Thank god for Napster right? They raised a whole generation on pirating.

haha...funny article. I don't even really watch Fox. I only watch what I can find on Hulu, Amazon or online generally.

This is hilarious. I don't like fox at the best of times and them pulling this crap just makes me giggle :p
