Fright Night remake

I don't quite understand the love for this movie. I didn't think it was very good at all. If this wasn't a remake or the original didn't exist would people still like this movie?

Evil Ed sucked in the remake. I dont blame it on the actor hes just a wasted character. His death scene in the original says more about Vincent and Ed then most the scenes in the remake ...and theres no dialogue....and its creepy as ****. Ed in the remake was just a goofball with no screentime.

Indeed. The original Evil Ed is an iconic character because while campy and over-the-top, it was also unpredictable and fantastic. His line readings could either be hilarious, or surprisingly sad and tragic. His turning and death scenes were two of the best parts in the original. In the remake, he's just McLovin with fangs.

But again, I liked the remake. I think if I hadn't seen the original, it'd probably be even better.

The reaction would be about the same. People would also be calling this Rear Window.. I mean"Disturbia with Fangs"

Yes. The original is the best, but the remake is so enjoyable that I would still like it if the original didn't exist.

Only issue would be the Disturbia thing....it would totally be compared like no other.

That's the first feeling I had coming out of Disturbia is how it was Fright Night...if Fright Night had been terrible.

Yeah, just didnt like Ed in this at all. Its was a solid flick. Good to know some filmmakers are capable of pulling off decent remakes.

So I saw this today, it's very good. :D

Never seen the original though.

If you like '80s horror camp and also old Hammer horror movies from the 1950s-1960s, you will love the original. Otherwise, it can go either way. Still, glad someone else can enjoy a new vampire movie where the vampire does not sparkle.

I'm just saying.

The original is very good and I recommend it if you liked this version. The ironic thing about this remake is that it seems that most people who've seen it and enjoy it never saw the original version.

Has anyone seen Stakeland? It looks decent.

seen it tonight, brilliant remake, i wasn't expecting much i really enjoyed the original and this did well enough to take the idea and what made the original fun and add to it, not may remakes do this. hopefully it gets a sequel as fright night 2 could be an interesting remake

i'm really amazed that its bombing, guess it goes to show the movie going public prefer moody emo vamps who would rather shag someone than turn them

I don't think it's bombing as bad as people are saying. Wasn't there another movie that "bombed" that got a sequel?

How did people find David Tennant's performance?

I just saw this. Never saw the original but this one was fun. Farrel and Tennant were awesome.

Not gonna lie, it did remind me of Disturbia (less so Rear Window, I guess because of the protagonists and tone), but it was much better than that movie, imo. Guess I'll have to seek out the original now.

I dont get the hate for Disturbia, its ok, would´ve been better if it wasnt so obvious the neighbor was the killer.

Fright Night is best to be seen when your a kid, but I think it's still a lot of fun if you like '80s camp and Hammer horrors. It's a lot of fun.

For fans of the original--and even those who haven't seen it--here is a hilarious video I saw on youtube a few days ago:

Fright Night - The Musical.

That was hilarious.

I finally managed to see this and as a huge fan of the original, I gotta say this lived up to it. They stayed fairly true to the spirit of the original while doing enough to make it stand out on it's own. All the players did their part, though sadly Evil Ed was underused. Even if he hadn't been though, he probably wouldn't be able to live up to his 80s counterpart.

Also I've had a mad crush on Imogen Poots for a while, I love seeing her in anything.

I think this new one was mediocre at worst and serviceable at best. On it's own, it has less than memorable performances, and it is another movie that relied heavily on cg fx. The only thing it had going for it was some of the same things that were going on in the old movie. The old one kicks it's butt in everything, but they both came at the basic story from the same angle, the new one just accelerated it for a more action-y feel. The old one had better music, funny/creepy support and main characters, more characters (what happened to Jerry's watchdog?), better special fx, and a smoother pace. They both had good writing, but their are differences in concerns with foul language and how characters played off each other. I always think that the 80s style always had a better look and feel than anything of today's film aesthetics and thinking, come on, we're in the dark ages here as far as film making. They gotta drag out these good movies, maybe they didn't do so well at the box office at the time, but they got a following ever since, and they just want to cash in on that. Hell, even Colin Farrell admits he was unsure about taking the job, said it was hollywood unoriginality striking again.
