Fright Night remake

Just because Vampires is the 'in' thing now...do we REALLY have to back track in the 80's & find every vamp film to re-make? and if so....this is the best?
IIts not just cause its a vampire flick, this has been in the making for years. It's just cause alot of 80's horror's are getting remade for the modern audience and to update the effects, but still keep the storyline of the first.

I think the current vampire craze will just help it, even if it was green lit awhile ago. But still, not sure why they wanna go re-make this. It wasnt even that good of a plot to begin with.

Heck, the springboard for the story is a variation on REAR WINDOW.

While I agree that far too many movies are being remade, I just can't get too worked up about a remake of FRIGHT NIGHT. It's an entertaining movie, but much better timeless classics have been remade.

Heck, I can't remember the last time FRIGHT NIGHT came up in conversation before the remake news. At least this should assure a Special Edition release of the original.

De Luca Gives Update on Fright Night Remake

Back in November, it was announced that Marti Noxon (a writer on Mad Men and Buffy The Vampire Slayer) was tapped to pen a remake of Tom Holland's beloved vampire flick Fright Night for Dreamworks.

Steve Weintraub over at Collider got the chance to have a lengthy chat with producer Mike De Luca who's helping shepherd the project. De Luca, who was the former president of production at New Line Cinema back in the early 90's worked on several genre titles such as Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3 and even scripted Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare. It's safe to say he's also a fan, so he understands fellow fans trepidation towards a Fright Night remake.

"I get it that remakes are a drag to hear about," he says. "I’m on the Internet all the time. I know what they say. Like there’s no original ideas in Hollywood. I understand the responsibility on the remake front of things because there are fans…you have responsibility I think to the fans of the original and you also have the responsibility to not suck even more than something original because you have so many people expecting you to suck because of the predisposed bias against remakes and stuff."

"And with Fright Night, with all the romantic vampire stuff going on with The Vampire Diaries and True Blood and Twilight, the most obvious. We thought it would be interesting if, in this atmosphere of the way the vampire is being portrayed right now as a romantic object, under the wire of all that in the culture the real thing moves in next door. And the real thing is a killer. Just a predator. It’s the shark from Jaws. On the outside it’s a seductive package and it looks like a human being, but it’s just about ripping your throat out and drinking your blood. And introducing that kind of vampire into the current environment."

The first draft of the script is due in a few shorts weeks and De Luca seems optimistic that Fright Night can go into production this year.

Fright Night Remake Scares Up a Director

Negotiations have begun with a director for DreamWorks' proposed Fright Night remake.

According to the L.A. Times, Craig Gillespie is the man the studio is keen on. He directed the quirky Lars and the Real Girl and serves as a director and producer on The United States of Tara.

Dreamworks hired Marti Noxon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Mad Men) to update Tom Holland's story of a teenager who learns a vampire has moved into the house next door. The teen hires a local horror movie host to help slay the creature before it claims his girlfriend.

Last November, we learned the script might take a meta approach in which the main protagonist reaches out to an actual star of the original Fright Night film to help with his vampire problem. We're not certain if Noxon's script sticks with this idea.

Anton Yelchin Boards Fright Night Remake

Anton Yelchin (Terminator Salvation, Star Trek) is in talks to play Charley Brewster in DreamWorks Pictures remake Fright Night, to be directed by Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl).

The 1985 original, written and directed by Tom Holland, was a horror comedy about a teenager (played by William Ragsdale) who discovers that his neighbor is a vampire.

The updated version, written by Marti Noxon ("Mad Men"), is expected to keep the comedy-horror tone while modernizing the effects.

Michael De Luca and Alison R. Rosenzweig are producing. Lloyd Ivan Miller, Michael Gaeta and Josh Bratman are executive producing.

Excellent casting choice. Now, the real question is what are they going to do with the Roddy McDowell role. You can't really do the horror host thing anymore, but I really liked the idea of Chris Sarandon playing himself. Imagine the Yelchin character getting Sarandon's help specifically because he was in the original Fright Night, and Sarandon having life imitate art.

I totally wanna see Elvira take up the Horror movie host role :)

A Casting Shocker: Colin Farrell Vamps Up for 'Fright Night'

The one thing with horror movies is that unknowns or up-and-comers are typically cast in the lead roles. I'm still sitting in shock as DreamWorks has announced that Colin Farrell will sink his teeth into Fright Night, their' remake of Tom Holland's cult 1985 film that also will see Toni Collette play a mom who falls under his spell, reports Heat Vision. The two join Anton Yelchin in the new version, which sticks to the original concept of a teen (Yelchin) being convinced that his new neighbor is a vampire, though no one will believe him. Farrell has the plum role of the vampire, named Jerry, who on the surface appears to be a cool guy but is really preying on the neighborhood. Chris Sarandon played the role in the 1985 pic. Collette is Yelchin's mom, who at first disapproves of the new arrival but changes her attitude when she meets the magnetic man and -- surprise -- doesn't believe her son when he tries to tell her Jerry is a vampire.

I think that's a good choice there. Can't wait to see what Colin brings to it.

With this cast, this is a remake I might check out. I loved the original when I was a kid but not sure how it holds up today.

Wow, those castings have me intrigued. But the best thing about the remake? Original two will be hopefully released on Blu-ray.

It doesn't. It has its 80's moments but it's definitely not a classic.

Or even originally on dvd for the second one. They stopped making it away ago and it cost like 75 dollars to order off e-bay.

Not surprising. That's why I haven't watched it in a long time. Better to remember it as it was when I was a kid then rewatch it and be disappointed. Same reason I won't watch Time Bandits and Monster Squad as well as a few others I can't remember at this time.

I mean it's just one person's opinion, but whatever.

I watched it awhile ago and still thought it was good. Sure it has its few little things to pick at, but still better then alot of the so called 80's "classics":hehe:

I still like it, and I didn't first see it until I was in college about 4 or 5 years ago. And when I showed it to my roommate last year, he found it to be quite enjoyable too. Yes, of course some of the older things of its decade are going to show through, but IMO, it's held up quite fine.

And yes, I'm looking forward to this remmake as well, considering the cast they're starting to pull in.

And impossible to find in rental places like Netflix. All their copies seem to have mysteriously disappeared when they were rented out over the years.

Yeah, even if you wanted to buy it pre-used in movie shops. I remember seeing a copy a while back, I'm kicking myself for not getting it and it was such a cheap price for pre-used.

Nice to see Colin Farrell in this movie as he's dramatically improved his acting with his recent films.

Not fond of Anton Yelchin, but I can definitely get behind Colin Farrell and especially Toni Collette. Hopefully she can bring some of that Tara quirkiness to her role in Fright Night.

kinda shocked by the amounts of good actors here.
and how can you not like Anton Yelchin?

I do have to admit that I didn't like him in that Charlie Barnett (spelling?) movie
