Fright Night remake

Going to a 9:00 Screening of this tonight will let u know what I think when I come back.

Awesome movie. Slightly pleasantly surprised because the script didn't grab my attention - but it translated beyond well to the screen. Plus, Anton Yelchin? HAS TO BE HARRY OSBORN! The whole range of emotions he showed in this movie really shows how talented he is.

It was fun. Actors all did a nice job. But the original is better overall IMO. Too much unneeded CGI in a lot of places (why on top of the practical effects? What an insult to the effects personal).

Really enjoyed it. It is in no way as good as the original like others have said though.

Few problems I had

-First 30 min sucked besides the intro.

-Evil Ed was wasted and way to goofy. Which is weird cause I heard they wanted to stay away from that. I actually felt bad for Ed in the orginal and
his death was way more epic and creepy in the original.
-Was disappointed they didnt have the scene where Vincent goes to Jerrys house to humor Amy and Charlie then learns hes a real Vamp.

-Ending could have put out more.

Yeah I wish they would have redone the scene where they go to Jerry's house to prove he's not a vamp, and Evil Ed could have been played out more. He felt kinda just thrown in here.

As a parent, for those who have seen the film, could you tell me what makes this R as oppose to PG-13? Is it the violence/gore/scares alone, or is it also nudity/sex? Feel free to use spoiler tags as not to spoil it for those who have not seen it.

There's no nudity or sex, just a lot of gore and bad language.

It looks like its getting good reviews. I gotta say this is the summer of "films that look bad but turn out to be excellent"Lol. I was sure that Thor , X Men First Class, Captain America, and Planet of the Apes would be stinkers but they all turned out to be first rate. I love the original Fright Night so i'm gonna try to see this one today maybe. I'm relieved they didn't go the Twilight route with this.

Tbh, I never thought this film looked bad at all. I read the script ahead of time.

No? From one shot in the trailer looks like there was one scene (a couple by a fire, not sure if it was the hero or the vampire).

Thanks for the info! My daughter is bugging me about this. I saw the original, just don't remember that much.

David Tennant in no way shape or form can ever replace Roddy McDowell, but I still really want to see this.

Besides being apprehensive of the R rating, I wondered about who they would get to play Roddy McDowell's role.

I'll probably be seeing this tomorrow night, just before work. For me it's the grand finale to summer and there ain't nothing left this year until Sherlock Holmes 2.

The only reason I'm seeing this tommorow morning instead of tommorow night is because of how loud the theater is at night. Too many people with their damn hpones.

Saw this earlier and enjoyed it a lot. The actors were all in top form, and while Chris Sarandon and Roddy McDowell (R.I.P.) will never be topped as Jerry and Vincent respectively, I thought Colin and David did great in the roles. Colin's Jerry was true to the original but at the same time his own thing (at times he reminded me of a vampire version of The Terminator, it was fun seeing him chase people throughout the movie) and Tennant put on a good show as Vincent, though he did feel underused. Yelchin did fine as Charlie and Amy in this movie is much more likeable than the original version. This had some pretty good action scenes too and as a whole it was fun.

Loved Chris Sarandon's cameo, too.

My negatives, besides Tennant being underused, is that the CGI was too obvious and overused, and at times it took me out of the movie. There was no reason a good amount of the make-up and gore effects couldn't have been done practically. And I also agree that

Evil Ed was underused and should've been developed better and not transformed so early on

But despite these flaws it was still a good time and definitely a movie I'd buy when it comes out on Blu-ray. Dug all of the nods and homages to the original two movies as well. I'd like to see this spawn an ongoing series of sequels. Would be a fun yearly event to get a new Fright Night every Summer or so. Just keep the director onboard along with Yelchin, Tennant and Poots, reduce the CGI and I'm down for any sequels.

Agreed. The originals creature effects were awesome. Would have been cool to if they tried to give the original a run for its money in that department.
