Nice to see that the DS is still on top. It has to slow down eventually, though, doesn't it? I also expected the first pary software to outsell the third party, because Nintendo's the only one putting out great games for DS.

You know, I have to ask:

Why isn't the Xbox 360 selling more? It is the only "next-gen" system out there and as such, it has virtually no competition to contend with. I suppose its numbers now are a good start, but wasn't the industry expecting more of a boom?

Selling at the rates it has been selling, Microsoft litterally has no way of meeting their targets by the time the PS3 launches. EVen if they pull the 100 dollar price drop. Right now, the system is tracking below the original Xbox. Of course price and people waiting for the PS3/Wii has probably had an effect. Even when Microsoft fixed their shortages, sales actually decreased for that month, so I'm not sure what's up with it, it's selling a consistently good amount though, and developers are loving the software sales.

When PS3 launches, PS2 will be selling more than it as well, just as the PSone outsold the PS2 for a while, so the original Xbox going over the 360 isn't that abnormal or bad. As for them missing their target...the figures you listed are completly wrong. According to this, something Microsoft can't lie about before you try to pull that card, they've sold 5 million X360's as of June 30th, 2006. That 2.32 million to date figure is either old, just for one territory, a lie, or anything else. Whatever it is, it's wrong.

Oh. Well their target was only 10 million sold by 2006, so a Christmas without a shortage, Gears of War, a coming PS3 shortage + lack of interest due to high price and bad library, etc, all that should do it, I doubt they'll miss their target
