Due to the probable loss of the Chinese Market (sanctions are coming) budgets will have to be reduced or no profit will be made.

I doubt it. But movies like the X-Men and the Fantastic Four don't necessarily need $200 million production budget unless the actors they hire are really eXpensive.

Its only the Avengers movies that really need a budget of $250 million and above.

It seems that during the Infinity Saga only the one and killed off villains entered as big money stars but every actor who signs up a multi-film MCU contract hopes to be Robert Downey Jr after their version of a film/character becomes a hit and essential for the future story

I say find talented unknowns who fit the roles and sign them to ten-film contracts.

No actors are worth what Marvel ends up paying them. Marvel is the one creating all the value. And for every big-name actor out there, there are 1000 just as talented who just haven’t been fortunate enough to become a star (yet).

And for any actors who feel such a deal wouldn’t be fair, they can always say ‘no’.

nah it works the other way around too.
That’s why Angelina Jolie was hired to push the Eternals.
From time to time Marvel Studios will hire unknown actors like Tom Holland or Chadwick Boseman were, but also well known actors like Benedict Cumberbatch, Mahersala Ali or Bdie Larson to start a new franchise

Let's just come back to this in about three years to see if this in any way turned out to be true.

Yeah, it’s difficult to get this level of global exposure so easily. We don’t need the budget blown on big names if lesser known actors can do a good job too.

An itemized summary of estimated or intended expenditures for a given period along with proposals for financing them: submitted the annual budget to Congress.
That’s a budGet. Eddie was asking a about a budJet! :cwink:

I doubt sanctions against China will affect the movie industry. I certainly don't anticipate barring the United States from exporting a product to China. So I'm not exceptionally worried here.

Budgets have always varied. I don't expect many 200 m + budgets going forward anyway..

I don‘t think they will cut the budgets for a MCU movie. But they‘ll probably return to 2 or 3 releases a year like it was before 2017. 3 releases only with a Sony-Marvel-movie in the same year.
Also probably only 1 Disney+ series a year, since it is not really a revenue stream, but expands the movie universe (which will be smaller then)

Got a feeling projects still being planned to be made in the USA might be moved outside the USA if immigration restrictions make it hard to bring in non Americans into the production.

I think Doctor Strange could've done fine without Cumberbatch. Someone like Pedro Pascal could've pulled off the role fine and he wasn't as big then.

Doctor Strange was very unkown in 2014 when BC was presented as leading actor (btw same year when Pedro Pascal appeared in GoT).
Of course it received a push after BC.
Jake Gylenhaal and Joaquin Phoenix were also rumored until then. No unkown actors.
Pedro Pascal is after Narcos and Mandalorian now famous enough

China threatening boycotts of western products. Most MCU films get 5-10 of their gross from there - with Disney presumably hoping for more for Shang - Chi. If that market is lost it puts pressure on the rest

Well not everything should be China after this - I can live with fewer movies a year
I‘m looking forward to Shang-Chi (hopefully with an appearance of Fing Fang Foom)
