There is a thread made for the movie about console wars movie SNES vs GENESIS, and it is now a gaming system discussion thread

So this is to move that discussion here, and all gamers to have fun with talking about their console memories, choice of preference, favorite exclusives, etc....

Good idea for a thread.

My top consoles would have to be.

1. Sega Dreamcast
2. Microsoft XBox360
3. Microsoft XBox
4. Sony Playstation
5. SEGA Genesis
6. Nintendo NES

XBox360
My 360 red-ringed on me and there's still a lot of titles for it I have yet to play but what I did play was phenomenal. Sonic Generations is one of the best Sonic games since the Genesis era. The Batman: Arkham series rivals Christopher Nolan's Batman films. Mirror's Edge is a stylish first-person adventure & The avatar/achievements system is cool.

SEGA Dreamcast
I got SEGA Dreamcast for Christmas 99 and it blew my mind. 128-bit graphics (For its time it looked incredible) the first 3D Sonic game, and a bunch of other AAA titles. It seemed like every game I rented for that system was great. I can't remember playing a bad Dreamcast game. The Web Browser was my first access to the internet. And downloading VMU saves was awesome. Crazy Taxi was super-addictive, and Shenmue was one of the most ambitious and creative games I ever played. I liked wasting time at the arcade playing that QTE game or buying things at the grocery store hoping to get the elusive Super Sonic figurine. Soul Calibur, Hydro Thunder & Super Magnetic Neo were also some of my favorites.

Microsoft XBox
It stung to lose the Dreamcast so quickly, but the XBox was a worthy successor. The controller was very similar to the Dreamcast's. (A lot of people complained about how big and bulky it was, but I loved it. Don't care for the Controller-S) A lot of SEGA exclusives helped make the XBox feel like a Dreamcast 2. Shenmue II was far bigger and more epic than the original, JSRF was bigger and had better graphics and music, and Crazy Taxi 3 was just as addictive as the original. Soul Calibur II was even better than the original, and I was introduced to the Metal Gear franchise through MGS2 Substance. Breakdown was a ton of fun. Though Sonic Heroes was a bit of a letdown, it was still a decent game. Didn't really get into the whole Halo craze, though.

SEGA Genesis
Sonic is what drew me to this console. I already had a NES and loved it, but the graphics and speed in Sonic 1 were pretty darn impressive for its time. I liked Sonic as a character. He just oozed coolness. And the premise of saving the world from a robotic dictatorship was so much more appealing to me than saving a princess. Music kicked ass too. The Genesis lacked a lot of the exclusives critics go nuts for like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy, but I personally didn't care for RPGs back then. The overhead perspective found in Zelda and other games like it was annoying to me. I was into platformers and the Genesis had a ton of them. Aladdin, Rocket Knight Adventures, World of Illusion, Tiny Toons: Buster's Hidden Treasure, Mickey Mania, etc.

Nintendo NES
I played it at my Grandma's when I was 4 or 5. I remember playing Karate and Super Mario Bros. I wanted a NES of my own and got one that Christmas. The first 3 Mario games were some of the best ever made. Others I liked were Tiny Toons, Battletoads, Contra, M.C Kids, Kirby's Adventure, TMNT 2, Darkwing Duck. A lot of nostalgia over this one.

The Dreamcast is number one for me. When I think of that console, I think of the quote from Blade Runner, "The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long, and you have burned so very brightly."

The Dreamcast was only around for two short years, and yet it amassed a library that would put practically any other console's first two years to shame. It wasn't just the size either, but the quality and especially the sheer variety of it all. The Dreamcast's library was pure, unfettered creativity on display. Many games were bold, risky, different. Pretty much the polar opposite of the way most games are these days.

It was a game console for gamers. No surprise as it was the last console to be released when arcades were still a thing, and I think the library of the Dreamcast reflects that greatly. It was for people who found joy in the simple act of playing video games and didn't need (or want) anything else in the periphery to "enhance" the experience.

It's a shame what happened to it. It's interesting to think about what Sega (and indeed the whole game industry) would be like today had the Dreamcast not been put down and gone on to be a bigger success.

From the home consoles my favorite device remains the PS2 slim
Small, very small, and the system is excellent, doesn't heat up as fast as the last gen of systems, or the generations before it

I really like the Dreamcast as well, partly because it has such a tragic vibe to it. It's like the little console that could. Or, couldn't, really. But it had some great, unique games.

The PS2 was pretty much the perfect console for the time. The only issue was the lack of FPS. Still, it's library is insanely diverse.
