Jennifer Garner is in talks to star opposite Matthew McConaughey in New Line Cinema's Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. Mark Waters will direct from a Jon Lucas and Scott Moore screenplay.

The story centers on a charming womanizer who is visited by the apparitions of girlfriends past, present and future while attending the wedding of his younger brother. He eventually realizes that he is in love with his childhood sweetheart.

Jon Shestack and Brad Epstein are producing. Shooting is scheduled to begin in January.
Shame, I love Jen, I was hoping from the title of the article, that this was gonna be a supernatural thriller, not a rom com:csad:

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Breckin Meyer, Lacey Chabert, Anne Archer, Amanda Walsh and Emma Stone are joining Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner in Mark Waters' romantic comedy The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past for New Line.

McConaughey plays Connor, a womanizer who attends the wedding of his younger brother (Meyer) and bride (Chabert). There, he's haunted by several old flames, including the bride's best friend (Garner).

Archer plays the mother of the bride, a potential Connor conquest, and Walsh plays the only bridesmaid he hasn't conquered. Stone plays the supernatural Ghost of Girlfriends Past who guides him through his romantic history in this takeoff on Dickens' "A Christmas Carol."

Jon Shestack and Brad Epstein are producing the feature from Jon Lucas and Scott Moore's screenplay. Filming begins February 19 in Boston.

At the New York junket for his new movie The Spiderwick Chronicles, ComingSoon.net asked director Mark Waters about his upcoming New LIne romantic comedy Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, a once troubled production, which he restarted with Matthew McConaughey in the lead.

In the film, McConaughey plays Connor, a womanizer who attends the wedding of his younger brother (Meyer) and bride (Chabert). There, he's haunted by several old flames, including the bride's best friend (Garner).

Although a lot of the supporting cast has been announced in the last couple days, including Jennifer Garner, Breckin Meyer, Lacey Chabert, Anne Archer and Emma Stone (from Superbad), one name that hasn't been mentioned but that we got out of Waters is the one and only Michael Douglas who will be playing "the Marley character, the old ghost who's dead, his Uncle Wayne, a '70s playboy, who was his mentor and he wears Bob Evans shades and guides him around the ghost world."

Waters also told us what he thought that McConaughey brought to the table when replacing the film's original star Ben Affleck. "There's something great about Matthew. He has an aspect of him that he can get away with murder with women. He's the kind of guy where women are apologizing to him when he breaks up with them, because he's so charming. It's always been such a delicious concept of taking a Christmas Carol and making a romantic comedy out of it."

Filming begins February 19 in Boston.

I just watched the trailer and it looks cute. Matthew M. loves these type of roles, huh? I figured he would step out the Rom-Com genre, but I guess if it ain't broke, don't fix it. For some reason, Jennifer Garner isn't my favorite. I thought she was cute in P.S. I Love You, but she isn't my top pick for sure. I would love to see Kate Hudson in this role, but I know since they already did two movies together, they probably won't team up again...

It was Hilary Swank in PS I Love You.

Hahah! I just came back in here to fix that. I got her confused with Garner! Thanks!

Strangely. This movie would have been great for one of those old-fashioned painted Rom-com posters.

I loved Failure to Launch, but it had a lot of elements that are atypical for a romantic comedy, almost in the same vein of Better Off Dead, but not as random. This looks like it might have some of that, but I'm not getting as great a vibe from the trailer. I miss the Matthew from movies like A Time to Kill.
