Girl wins Iowa H.S. wrestling state championship because contender refuses to wrestle

Yeah, no-win situation for him, really. He if he hurts her, he looks bad, if he loses, he look weak. I'm all for equality, but come on, can't there be some sports that boys play, and some that girls play? Maybe start a girls wrestling team.

Not only that, but wrestling involves a lot of grabbing, the boy grabs a boob going for a suplex, then what?

He shouldve gone in there and done his best against her. Period. SHE made the choice to get into this tough sport, which is dominated by guys. She should be treated as such, by opponents, coaches, etc.

Also, Terry, your title is incorrect. She did NOT win the state high school championships. She simply won a match in the state tournament.

very easy to say, but if he really hurts her during the match he's screwed.

sad so say and most will find what i say sexiest but there are some sports that the sexs should not mix in

It's a full contact sport centered around grappling. Everyone going into it is aware of potential injury and trains and creates rules in order to avoid it. I very much doubt that A) She'd be more likely to get seriously injured than any male wrestler if she has been training as much as her teammates, or B) He'd be in any more trouble than if he seriously injured a male wrestler, as serious injury in high school wrestling isn't that common, the rules are designed to avoid that and if it were common it wouldn't be played in high schools, and any serious injury that he was responsible for would be grounds for investigation and/or punishment.

Well you have two highschool kids, one male, one female, in tight clothes rolling on the ground together. Something embarrasing is likely going to happen. I would have forefit too. Better to be known for not fighting a girl than to have an `accident` while during so in front of hundreds of peopl. :p

When I was in high school it was called first base

Yeah, turns out, grappling cometatively while wearing protective headgear in the middle of an arena with a croud of people watching isn't a very sensual experience.

To be fair, there was another girl in the tournament who did wrestle and lost, no one is saying that guy was an ass for wrestling her.

Also, these girls must have wrestled dozens of guys to get into the championship. They didn't all forfeit.

So yes, maybe his 'religious reasons' are really why he didn't wrestle her, but it wouldn't have looked bad if he did.

Its easy to say AND do. Again, she knows what she signed up for, the guy is obviously in her weight class and she has also trained and made it to the state tournament. Its not like someone is asking an untrained woman to wrestle a larger, trained man. The guy, who I assume has also trained hard to get there, shouldnt give up that spot (and a chance to win it all) just because she is a female. I can understand if he is slightly uncomfortable and he said his reasons for not doing it, and I can respect that. But I think he did himself and her a disservice.

I say what I said because I have been a part of a football team where a girl played. She was actually decent. Well, I ran her slap over one time and her brother (also on the team) got pissed at me. The coach pulled him aside and told him the same thing I just said-she is here to play football, not paint toenails. And I didnt feel bad at all.

I would've jacked that girl up cuz i'm a G!!

But seriously when I first saw this article I thought he was silly for not doing it because obviously she worked hard to get to this point and has proven herself to be capable of wrestling so he should go ahead and have a match with her. But then I read that he wouldnt fight for religious reasons and it made me think. Maybe its not because he didnt want to hurt her or look bad but rather because he was uncomfortable with having such full contact with a female out of marriage. Who knows I'm guessing

this weas very noble of this young man. I am very propud of what he did. It shows that there are SOME men out there with morals, character, and self control.

Way to go Joel!!!

I think I woulda forfeit as well. In high school I don't care who was watchin, if I was rollin around with some half dressed girl I would have an "accident" to! Hormones are racing at that age.
