GL noob question

hey guys I was curious i know about green lanterns origins but i recently tried reading rebirth...When did Hal Jordan die and who the heck is Parralax?
I wanna be able to read rebirth and through the blackest night series, so here's my question. Is there a book with the parralax story that can catch me up to rebirth? Thanks

Emerald Twilight is when he becomes the villain Parallax. That story picks up after Cyborg Superman and Mongul destroy Coast City as part of Reign of the Supermen. Final Night is the story where Hal dies.And in Day of Judgement Jordan becomes the Spectre.

If you want to read when Coast City is destroyed, it's in the Return of Superman GN. It's a few hundred pages, and only $20. It's a really good deal.
