Hello.
I have a question. This August, I will be studying abroad in Italy until December. My local comic shop said that they could hold the titles on my pull list (amazin spider-man, captain america, buffy season 8) while I was gone if I wanted to. Should I just hold the issues or wait until I get back to buy the trades? I think it will be very difficult for me to get comics in Italy, since I will not be living in a big city. Thanks

Also, I was just curious, do most of you prefer buying issues individually, or getting trades? Thanks

Nope, there isn't a comic shop near where I am staying

You could just order them from a website. I'm sure there are a lot of online comic shops that'll ship to Italy.

Midtown has international shipping, I know.

It'll cost a bundle, though.

I'd just have the single issues held. No reasons to break up your comic runs just because of a little vacation.

Which format do I prefer? It depends. They both have their goods and bads. I always buy stuff like minis in trades, but if there's a series I really love like Brave and the Bold or something, I could never wait the six months to read it in trade.

I always go for trades. That way, you can listen to the people on these boards, and find out what the general consensus is on certain storylines, and ear-mark them for a trade purchase. That way, you know that what you're buying is quality stuff. Also, on the few occasions that I have read single issues, I've just got so frustrated with the cliffhanger that is always at the end of them. Single issues don't work with someone as impatient as me! And it's cheaper as well, so lots of reasons.

It's not THAT much cheaper.

Maybe a few dollars in the end.

Single issues, definitely. You'll always find the trades at a decent price. The single issues, though, can go quite high. (Just think if you didn't have Captain America 25.)

Actually, I've been seeing a lot of 6-issue trades going for $17.95 lately, which is actually a penny more than the equivalent price in individual issues.

- It really depends on how much your willing to try. Going out to a place a few miles away for your comics really shouldn't be a big deal, unless it costs a lot of money.
- Assuming you speak Italian, Italian comics ordering website. There should be a few that will ship you to your locale.

Hello webhead, I'm Italian.

I suggest to hold the issues: here in Italy is really rare to find original american comics; and if you won't be living in Rome, Milan, Torino or Florence, it will be quite impossible!

Hope it will help :)

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I will go ahead and have them hold the comics. I really like the store near me and want to give them as much business as possible

Plus, imagine the motherload of comics you'll get when you return. Now THAT will be a good weekend!
