Granblue Fantasy Project Re:Link, the Platinum Games-developed action RPG for PlayStation 4, will be officially titled Granblue Fantasy: Relink, publisher Cygames announced at Granblue Fantasy Fes 2018. A release date has yet to be announced.

Cygames debuted the latest trailer and gameplay demo during the event. The trailer introduces characters Gran, Djeeta, Lyria, Katalina, Rackam, Io, Eugen, Rosetta, and Vyrn, while the gameplay demo features Gran (with Lyria and Vyrn), Katalina, Rackam, and Io in action. The game will allow up to four players to play and battle together.

Lyria

A dual-wielding master swordsman who serves as the captain of the Order of White Dragons of Feendrache Kingdom. If danger would rear its ugly head in the kingdom he so loves, he would risk both life and limb to see it defeated. Despite this, he can never seem to keep his room clean.

He rushes across the battlefield at blinding speed, a flurry of shining, crystalline slashes. Those who set eyes on this fighting style immediately recognize why he was made captain of his order.

An Erune girl who once resided on the Mist-Shrouded Isle. She became a spirit at the moment of her death. This grim transformation occurred while she was waiting for her frail sister to return home, a period that had lasted well past her death. At Gran and Lyria’s behest, she sets out on a journey to discover the whereabouts of her now-grown sibling. In addition to the crack of her whip, she fights with the faithful bite of her ghostly pets, overwhelming her opponents with phantasmagoric assaults.

Following this weekend’s announcement for Granblue Fantasy: Relink, Famitsuspoke with Granblue Fantasy director Tetsuya Fukuhara, who shared further information on the Platinum Games-developed action RPG.

• The setting of the story is “Zega Grand,” which appeared a bit in the main story as well. From the planning stages, we decided to set it in a place where prior knowledge would not be required, so even those who haven’t played Granblue could jump into the story. So as long as you know that “Granblue‘s story is set in the skies,” enjoying the game won’t be a problem.
• Although the story connects with the main quest of the original game, it’s a little bit further than the main quest has gotten as of December 2018.
• The item hanging around Vyrn’s neck is the same class of voice transmitters used by Eustace, who is in an “organization” in the main story. Through this, Vyrn can communicate with faraway characters outside the party.
• The primal beasts that appear in this game are all completely new, and show up in various circumstances both as enemies and as allies. Also, a large number of new characters will appear. There are a lot of characters with strong personalities.

• We’re also considering bringing the characters and story of this game into the smartphone version.
• 
  
• The flow of the game is basically moving through stages to get to the boss, advancing to specific areas alongside the story. Various locations like vast grasslands and snowy mountains will appear, and there also sub-quests with elements like exploration.
• I can’t say a specific number when it comes to playable characters. But Bayonetta for example had unique motions for each weapon, which allows you to enjoy different ways of fighting for each one. If you counted each of those weapons as playable characters, [the playable character count] should be quite large for one of these types of games.
• You will unlock playable characters by meeting specific requirements as you progress through the game.

• For multiplayer, you can choose from the playable characters that you have unlocked. Since each player’s rate of progression is different, players are allowed to choose the same character.
• What we’re trying to go for with multiplayer is high-difficulty quests that are unlocked after you clear the main story once, but you can also play low-difficulty quests before clearing the main story.

• The game is just as far along as Granblue Fantasy Versus. However, since Granblue Fantasy: Relink is so much bigger, we will likely release Granblue Fantasy Versus first.
• (This applies to both Granblue Fantasy: Relink and Granblue Fantasy Versus.) We would also like to release for Steam (PC). We already have some titles for PlayStation 4 that are being developed in-house such as the tentatively titled Project Awakening, and as a company we will certainly continue to put our strength into console.

• We chose Arc System Works because their style with franchises like Guilty Gear and BlazBlue was a good fit with Granblue Fantasy.
• Since we don’t want to alienate [fighting game] beginners and those who aren’t accustomed to games, it won’t be a combo-filled game.
• In order for users who have only played the smartphone game to be able to enjoy the game, all of the special moves can be unleashed with the press of a single button.
• For skilled players, on the other hand, we’re making sure the game has action and strategic depth. We’re utilizing the know-how of Arc System Works, so you can expect something good.
• 
  
• The game speed is moderate, and the combos are also very simple.
• Currently, the game system is such that difficult elements like juggling and aerials can only be done in very limited situations.
• Abilities and arts from the original game are included as skills. For example, Lancelot’s “Blade Impulse” appears as a special move, and “Weiss Flugel” is activated as an art with a cutscene.

• There is online support. Player matching and ranked matching are planned.

• An arcade release is under consideration. Both Cygames and Arc System Works want to make it happen.

• Development is currently about 60 percent complete. The fundamental components are nearly complete, and from here we’re putting our focus on raising the quality.

Cygames will announce more playable character(s) for the December-revealed Arc System Works-developed fighting game Granblue Fantasy: Versus during its Granblue Fantasy 5th Anniversary Special live stream, director Tetsuya Fukuhara teased in his latest “Director Letter.”

While the company has yet to announce a specific date the Granblue Fantasy 5th Anniversary Special broadcast, the smartphone game celebrates its yearly anniversary on March 10, and previous years’ broadcasts were held on the Sunday before each anniversary.

Granblue Fantasy Versus is due out for PlayStation 4 in 2019.

On a related subject, Fukuhara also shared new artwork for the Platinum Games-developed action RPG Granblue Fantasy: Relink, which will be released for PlayStation 4. A release window has yet to be announced.

Twinfinite sat down with Granblue Fantasy: Relink and Granblue Fantasy: Versusdirector Tetsuya Fukuhara at Granblue Fantasy Fes 2018 in December, who shared new details on the upcoming RPG and fighting game.

It should be noted that this interview was conducted before Cygames announcedthat Platinum Games is no longer working on Granblue Fantasy Relink.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink (Game Information)

• On choosing characters: As it is a story-driven RPG, “we want to make sure the characters are our most iconic,” including Gran, Katalina, and the other characters that appear in the main story.
• On downloadable content characters: Downloadable content characters are “included in our plans,” but details cannot currently be shared. “We definitely know that our fans want more characters to appear in the console games, so that is definitely something that we are considering.”
• On other characters: “Caracters like Lancelot, Charlotta, and Percival” are still in the game.
• On frame rate: Granblue Fantasy: Relink is aiming for 60 frames per second, but may settle at 30 frames per second depending on the final visuals. “That being said, as mentioned, our goal, for now, is to have it running at 60 frames per second.”
• On unique elements: Granblue Fantasy: Relink will be more accessible compared to Granblue Fantasy: Versus. “We aren’t really aiming to have something completely unique or bizarre, departing too much from the typical elements of RPG… We believe that the overall quality will make the game stand out from the games in the same genre.”
• On job changing: Job changes are not present in the game due to the immense amount of resources that would be required. Instead, those reseources are being used “to fully flesh out” other characters like Katalina and Rackam, who have “very different gameplay from the main character.”
• On release window: Granblue Fantasy: Relink was previously planned for 2018, but is currently without a release window. The project became “more and more massive” and Cygames “didn’t want to make compromises on the quality,” so it chose to delay the game. “At the moment it doesn’t have a release date because we already delayed it once, we never, ever want to do it again.”
• On silent protagonists: Gran and Djeeta (male and female protagonists) remain silent protagonists, as they are in the mobile game, outside of voices for battle actions and dialogue reactions. The protagonist’s name can be changed.
• On simultaneous worldwide release: Granblue Fantasy: Relink is aiming for a simultaneous worldwide release.
• On releasing so late into the console generation: “It has been quite a while since the release of PS4. That being said, that also means that the whole industry has stronger development skills on the platform. On top of that, the installed base is also much bigger. Releasing on the latter half of the generation does have its merits so we do want to take advantage of this timing. Since PS5 has not been officially announced, we don’t know what’s going to happen. Yet, if it does come out before our games are released, we might think of releasing on PS5 as well. That being said, in that case, they would probably have to be remastered versions.”

Granblue Fes 2019 will run from December 13 to 15 at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan, Cygames announced.

The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu has new information on Granblue Fantasy: Relink following news in February that Platinum Games is no longer involved in the development of the action RPG.

Here are the tidbits:

• Granblue Fantasy: Relink is currently in development at Cygames Osaka.
• When Cygames Osaka first took over, development speed temporarily decreased, but now Cygames Osaka alone has secured a development system with the same number of staff that it had when the game was being co-developed by Platinum Games.

Granblue Fantasy: Versus will be playable at Granblue Extra Fes 2019 in Sendai and Osaka, publisher Cygames announced.

The Sendai event will be held on July 27 and 28 at the Yume Messe Miyagi, and the Osaka event will be held on August 3 and 4 at Intex Osaka.

This is the first known instance Granblue Fantasy: Versus will be playable to the public.

The June 2019 issue of Official PlayStation Magazine UK has a 10-page feature on Granblue Fantasy action RPG Granblue Fantasy: Relink and fighting game Granblue Fantasy: Versus, which shares a few new tidbits of information on each title.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink

• While Platinum Games left the project earlier in 2019, the bulk of what it built remains, including the level layout, character animation, and fighting systems.
• Each character has their own fighting style and is tied to a certain weapon or weapon type.
• The game progresses in a mostly linear fashion, but there will be additional activities. “You can pick up side-quests from the towns you visit along the way, and come and go between them as you please,” according to director Tetsuya Fukuhara.
• Towns also act as lobbies where you can team up with other players online and take on missions. (You can also play solo, with the rest of the four-person party being AI-controlled.)
• Regarding characters, Fukuhara said, “We know there are many fan favorites, so we’ll try to fit in as many as we reasonably can. It’s not possible to match the roster size of the original game, of course, and the development team has its hands full deciding who makes the final cut.”

Granblue Fantasy: Versus

• Regarding eSports, Fukuhara said, “Many people think of fighting games when they hear ‘eSports,’ and that’s another genre we want to take a stab at. When the time comes to hold [Granblue Fantasy] Versustournaments, we’ll be sure to deliver something great for fans of Granblue, eSports enthusiasts, and spectators alike.”
• Regarding characters, Fukuhara said, “”We consulted with Arc System Works to see how they decided on which characters to include in the initial releases of Guilty Gear and BlazBlue… Great care is being taken to model every character’s movesets and animations to match with their originals and bring them to life.”
• While Granblue Fantasy Versus will hinge around a weapons-based fighting system, “right now the battle system is completely different [from Arc System Works fighting games like Guilty Gear and BlazBlue],” according to Fukuhara. “It’s much slower compared to Guilty Gear and BlazBlue… Combos are simplified, and all special moves can be activated at the press of a button in Versus. I think this simple but deep system will allow for interesting strategies.”
• There will be an story mode with an original story. “A very interesting ending is waiting,” Fukuhara teased.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink is in development for PlayStation 4, but a release date has yet to be announced. Granblue Fantasy: Versus is due out for PlayStation 4 worldwide in 2019.

Sign-up applications now available.

Cygames will host a closed beta test for Granblue Fantasy: Versus from May 31 to June 1, the company announced.

Beta test applications are now open in English and Japanese, and will close on May 24 at 11:00 p.m. PT / May 25 at 6:00 a.m. GMT.

The application results will be announced on May 28.

The full test period is as follows:

• May 31 from 2:00 a.m. PT / 9:00 a.m. GMT to 7:00 a.m. PT / 2:00 p.m. GMT
• May 31 from 6:00 p.m. PT / June 1 from 1:00 a.m. GMT to 11:00 p.m. PT / 6:00 a.m. GMT
• June 1 from 9:00 a.m. PT / 4:00 p.m. GMT to 2:00 p.m. PT / 9:00 p.m. GMT

Granblue Fantasy: Versus is due out for PlayStation 4 in 2019.

just finished the Anime series ( hope there's a Season 2 ) and I'm interested the characters and world.

I wonder how big the roster for Versus will be. I know there are a ton of GB characters. so obviously not all will make it. Hopefully, they don't make the game feel like a DLC cash grab.

that's a man baby yeah . any way it waht it seem's any they call her she. we'll find more via the second season anime I guess.

Granblue Fantasy: Versus closed beta test ‘Daigo Umehara vs. Fuudo’ gameplay

Publisher Cygames and developer Arc System Works have released a 19-minute video of professional fighting game players Daigo Umehara and Fuudo battling it out in the Granblue Fantasy: Versus closed beta test.

As previously announced, the closed beta test will run from May 31 to June 1. Applications to participate are available now in English and Japanese, and will close on May 24 at 11:00 p.m. PT / May 25 at 6:00 a.m. GMT.

though, I did notice, the special moves seem to be on some kind of "cooldown" mechanism ( tied to the icons below the life bar? ). they did say the special moves would be "simplified" down to a single button press, so maybe that's what they were referring to?

A new key visual art, teaser trailer, staff and the cast have been revealed for Granblue Fantasy: The Animation Season 2, which is the on-going TV anime adaptation based on the smart phone RPG series by Cygames that takes place in a world of skies. The official website for Cygames and Arc System Works' Granblue Fantasy: Versus fighting game began streaming a new promotional video for the game on Sunday. The video reveals the new characters Zeta and Vaseraga as playable characters.




The game will launch in Japan on the PlayStation 4 on February 6. The game was originally slated to release this year in Japan.

XSEED Games will release the game for PlayStation 4 in North America, and Marvelous Europe will release the game in Europe.

Game director Tetsuya Fukuhara reportedly said in February that the game will launch worldwide simultaneously. Playable characters in the game so far include Gran, Katalina, Charlotta, Lancelot, Ferry, Lowain, Ladiva, and Percival. Stella Magna is composing the music for the game.

Cygames released the original Granblue Fantasy smartphone game in 2014, and the game has more than 23 million downloads. Cygames is also working on the Granblue Fantasy: Relink PlayStation 4 game, which will also have a worldwide simultaneous release. Cygames took over development of the game from Platinum Games in February. The game is planned for English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish localizations.
