Grumpy Cat – voted Meme of the Year at the 2013 Webby Awards – has landed a movie deal.
According to Deadline, the permanently moody feline will star in a 'Garfield-like' feature. This continues the success of 2012 for Grumpy Cat, a year in which she was named the year's most influential cat by MSNBC and the year's most important Meme by Mashable. She's certainly capitalising on her public profile, having already appeared on Today, Good Morning America, CBS Evening News, and The Soup.
And fame is unlikely to faze Grumpy Cat, who recently attracted huge crowds at SXSWi. Her YouTube channel already has over 20 million views and merchandise adorned with her image can be bought at Walmart and Thinkgeek.

Didn't know we had influential cat lists.

Can we say overexposed?

Just because something is a popular meme doesn't mean it can carry a movie.

And a family movie? Some of the funnier Grumpy Cat memes are R-rated... go un-PC all the way or water it down.

Coming in 2016 - Picard Facepalm: The Movie.

Movie? Couldn't they just give it some TV show like that ****ing orange?

Hey, if we're turning Internet memes into movies, I want The Adventures of Trollolol in 2014. That could be a musical worthy of an Oscar.

I've got nothing against the cat, but someone really needs to burn Hollywood to the ground.

How easy it is to greenlight just anything... except DC superhero adaptions.
I'm amazed!

someone saw that pic and literally thought "yea....i could make a movie about that" ?
oh hollywood

I demand a Old Money Dog movie, with Robert Downey Jr. voicing said dog.

I saw this coming and it's a terribly ridiculous idea but that said people will actually pay to see this.

From the Grumpy Cat (real name: Tardar Sauce) website:

Grumpy Cat became an internet sensation after her photo was posted on Reddit on September 22, 2012. It was suggested that the original photo was photoshopped, so we posted a few videos on YouTube. The videos went viral and her popularity has continued to increase!

We aren’t exactly sure about Grumpy Cats breed; but she looks nothing like her mother or father. She looks similar to a Ragdoll or Showshoe; but there have never been any of that breed around the house. Her mom is a calico domestic short hair cat and her father has grey and white stripes. (Though I suppose there could be a different father, promiscuous cats you know…)

Tardar Sauce visits the vet regularly and she has a clean bill of health. Her petite size and famous face is likely due to feline dwarfism and her rear end wobbles a bit when she walks due to this; otherwise she is a perfect little kitty! She is not a munchkin cat and was not bred purposefully from other munchkin cats. (We don’t breed kitty’s and her parents are normal sized domestic short hair cats.)

I recently sold that film to Touchstone Pictures. :BA

Sadly this still has a chance of being better than Garfield's live action feature.

While the writing for the Garfield films was bad, the Grumpy Cat film will be hard - pressed to top Bill Murray's awesomeness.

Youtube videos now being made into films, where will this end?

An adaption of the McDonald's logo? Or this:

Will they make Grumpy Cat an old grouchy sounding woman since the cat is actually a girl cat in real life?

One thing I do know, Grumpy Cat would not approve of this.
