Iggymob, the development team behind Gungrave VR, is currently developing the next entry in the Gungrave saga with Gungrave G.O.R.E. for PlayStation 4, Gungrave VR development boss Jun Pd told Famitsu.

“In [Gungrave VR], we are depicting a story that acts as a prequel to the PlayStation 4 game Gungrave G.O.R.E., which is currently in development,” Jun told Famitsu.

Business director Kay Kim later added, “The curtain will open on the rebirth of Gungrave starting with Gungrave VR, and continue towards G.O.R.E. The overall scale is difficult to convey at this point. But for G.O.R.E., we want to deliver on a greater scale and level of quality than Gungrave VR, so we are developing on the latest Unreal Engine. We are aiming for a scale that compares favorably to higher level games, but I think that the most important thing is, ‘How can we create a title that receives the consent and sympathy of existing fans?’ I want to make more and more effort, and pursue the understanding and expression of the Gungrave setting.”

Gungrave VR launched for PlayStation VR via the PlayStation Store today in Japan and is due out in western territories in early 2018.

Published 3 mins ago. 3 comments.

Update 04/25/18 at 12:55 a.m.: Here are a few additional details:
Gungrave VR Complete Edition will launch on August 23 in Japan. Pricing has yet to be announced.

  • “Episode 2” adds side-scrolling stages. Additionally, the amount of objects that can be destroyed at once have been increased to more than 10, and particularly in third-person mode, you can enjoy the best parts of a “Full Break” similar to the original version.
  • The game features completely new opening and ending movies. They are packed with nostalgic scenes for fans of the television anime.
  • Development is 95 percent complete.
The magazine also shares a few new tidbits about Gungrave G.O.R.E., the non-virtual reality, Unreal Engine 4-based Gungrave project currently in development for PlayStation 4. Here are the details:

  • The basic system parts have been settled, but there are still things to be concerned about.
  • The battle system may be a bit difficult to approach for users who want simple combo action. The developers want to find a common ground for future adjustments.
  • Gungrave character designer Yasuhiro Nightow has been involved from the early stages, and has started on a new character design for Grave. He is in close communications with the art director.
Thanks, Hachima Kikou.

Gungrave G.O.R.E. outlines action, setting, and characters
Published 13 hours ago. 9 comments.
More information on the winter 2019-due sequel.

Following its teaser trailer debut at Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Asia’s PlayStation LineUp tour, Iggymob and image director Yasuhiro Nightow shared new information on Gungrave G.O.R.E. during a media presentation at Tokyo Game Show 2018.

In Gungrave G.O.R.E., not only will you wield the Cerberus twin handguns, tools for close-range combat are also being prepared. In the process of this, the game adopted the use of “Transform Action,” where the tempo changes when using Cerberus depending on the action.

While the “Full Break Action” from previous games will return, you will also be able to enjoy further expanded actions. For example, you can pierce through objects to damage enemies. And rather than the stage clear-type system of previous games, Gungrave G.O.R.E. utilizes a “half-open world” where you can enjoy combat on various terrains.

Based on these features, Iggymob describes the genre of Gungrave G.O.R.E. as “Transform Full Break Gun Action.”

The following characters were also revealed:

Beyond the Grave

Mika Asagi

Injured in a certain incident.

Bunji Kugashira

Revived by a special being.

Iggymob also discussed the development process of Grave’s new design, which was developed in collaboration with Yasuhiro Nightow. In the game, Grave will have various facial animations for expressing emotions.

Here is how the game’s story begins:

Following Garino’s defeat in Gungrave: Overdose, Mika and Grave looked for traces in places all over the world in order to eradicate the SEEDs in Gungrave VR. One day, Mika encounters a small organization carrying out the same actions, and forms an alliance with them to create a new organization called El-Al-Canhel. Mika becomes its leader, and Grave remains by her side, same as always.

The game itself seems to be set in the Southeast Asia region. It starts in Hong Kong, before moving to Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Singapore. A mysterious island that appears in Southeast Asia will make up the final stage of the game.

An organization known as the Raven Clan, which aims to spread the SEEDs of the world and is seizing control over these areas, will oppose El-Al-Canhel.

Finally, Iggymob shared that the developers of Gungrave G.O.R.E. are a team of veteran engineers, artists, and managers who have worked at major developers and publishers. Their past credits include Sega, Netmarble Games, Visual Dart, Netmarble Neo, Netmarble Monster, Netmarble Blue, Gamevil, Sonnori, WeMade Entertainment, Softmax, Neoact, and Smilegate.

Gungrave G.O.R.E. is due out for PlayStation 4 in winter 2019 in Japan.

Gungrave G.O.R.E will have in-game cinematics produced by Digic Pictures, whose past works include game cinematics for Call of Duty: WWII, Destiny 2, Assassin’s Creed Origins, The Last Guardian, and more.

Watch a video message from Digic Pictures founder and managing director Alex S. Rabb below.

Transcript

Hi, everyone. I’m very pleased to meet you all at Tokyo Game Show. My name is Alex S. Rabb, and I’m the founder and managing director of Digic Pictures.

Back in the old days I was a gamer myself, but nowadays I can’t compete with you guys at all. We got very excited when we got in touch with Iggymob about seven months ago earlier this year, because we are always looking for challenging new opportunities. We are honored to be working with Iggymob on the Gungrave G.O.R.E. project and to make this game real big.

Digic Pictures is located in the heart of Europe in Hungary. Our studio is in the so-called mini Silicon Valley, Budapest next to the beautiful river Danube. My aim when I established Digic about 16 years ago was to create films that are only limited by the imagination of its creator. This is what we call digital magic, and this is what our name Digic is coming from.

At the moment we have more than 300 people in our studio—a talented team of 3D artists, directors, production managers, motion capture and 3D photo scan specialists, stuntmen, and so on. They are the very reason they can bring universes and characters alive, and create amazing virtual worlds. At the beginning, we started with trailers, teasers, promotions for games, and then we got involved with in-game cutscenes, and right now we are working on short movies as well. But creating movies for games stays always in the bottom of our hearts.

Digic has created more than a hundred movies up to now, including projects for clients such as Sony, Square Enix, Microsoft, Ubisoft, Activision, Riot Games, just to name a few. It is our aim to create short movies, not just trailers for the games. We believe that telling stories is the key. Perfect visuals are the basics, but that is not enough. A good cinematic relies on a captivating story just exactly as a good feature film. We want you to feel that you are part of the action, the fight.

Iggymob and Gungrave G.O.R.E., they’ve got a new game, a new type of collaboration, and a new partner. It is super exciting for us to be involved from a very early development phase of the game. Starting with the trailer, we will also develop opening and ending scenes, and maybe a few surprises. To give you a little sneak peek of what you can expect, the story of the game is very emotional, so we will enjoy showcasing all this drama through our cinematics.

This game will be one of the most stylish shooters, packed with “Full Break” gun action and “Transform” gun kata that no one has ever seen before in a game. It is a great chance for Digic to compose beautiful-executed scenes matching all the excitement.

Gungrave G.O.R.E. is the next stage of a successful franchise, and Digic is proud to join Iggymob on this journey. With other prominent partners, we can establish the basis of a long term relationship.

Gungrave G.O.R.E. is due out for PlayStation 4 in winter 2019 in Japan.
