Well, Luna has a strong personality, that I imagine was really fun for J.K to write. I don't think Ginny has much of an interesting personality, which is the problem. We know she's kind to people like Neville and Luna, she has a tough streak to her (having grown-up with all those brothers), and is popular.

I never really liked her, and whenever she was around I always wished she'd go away and leaver Ron, Harry and Hermione alone so they could talk. lol.

I just wanted to note this was my favorite performance of Gambon's as Dumbledore.

Same. I really think everyone's performance in this one was their best. Rickman, Felton, Gambon, Radcliffe... they all did fantastic.

No, that IS horrible writing. Readers knew more about Luna's personality than they did Ginny's after book 5, that demonstrates how weak Ginny was written. Why in the world would you then pare up the main character with one of the weakest characters in the series?

Oh come on, it's nowhere near horrible. Horrible would be if JKR hooked him up with someone like Katie Bell, who we've only seen speak about four times.

Now, Ginny wasn't great to be sure, but there was a slight build to their relationship (pretty heavy hints in OOTP), and we did start getting more of her (again, very much so in OOTP, and then quite a bit in HBP).

It wasn't like she had no development, she was just under-developed. It's by no means one of the worst fantasy relationships out there. (How about Aragorn and Arwen in the original LOTR books? They have almost no development. The movie handled them much better.)

It would have been quite boring reading Ginny and Harry talk about Quidditch.

That's not what we're saying. We're talking about seeing more of those instances where Ginny displays her funny personality. Seeing more of the usual conversations they had after Quidditch that eventually lead to them growing to become interested in one another.

In short, we wanted to see the build up of the romance.

Agreed. It felt as if they just dropped it on us from out of nowhere. I was sort of like "Harry, when the **** did you start having eyes for Ginny?!"

I kind of liked it. It's like, she had that crush on him for so long... and then once she gave up, he had a crush on HER

Cute

I had always preferred Richard Harris Dumbledore, but what really sealed it for me here, was the line when he apparated out of Hogwarts which isn't supposed to be possible and he just tells Harry "There are certain advantages to being me" or something along those lines. Gambon's expression and everything about that scene was perfect to me.

HBP was the first time I felt Gambon really nailed Dumbledore, and I'm very glad, because this was the movie where it was most important.

Yeah, him and Felton really stepped it up.

He looked a lot more like Dumbledore here as well. I LOVED him in the astronomy tower scene. I know I mentioned it but when Dumbledore says to Draco, "Draco, I once knew a boy who made all the wrong decisions, don't let that boy be you" That wasn't in the book. And that's something that shows you don't need source material to make it good. It's just good screenwriting. We've had the fortune of Steve Kloves who brilliantly weaves everything together and sets the right tone and balance.

The thing I love about that line is he could really be referring to a number of people (Riddle, Snape, himself).

I'm sure he would be referring to Riddle since, even though he and Snape made their share of mistakes, Riddle had never so much as attempted to redeem himself.

Exactly.
