I wonder who'll play who?

Weasley/Riddle/Malfoy?

Can't wait if OotP is anything to go by. Books out tommorow!!!!!

ooh, nice!

and yeah, i agree with AJ, at least on riddle and malfoy.

i can't see townsend as a weasley.

In case anyone is wondering this is the site : http://www.movievine.com/casting/article00670.shtml

ALso has anyone else ever heard of this site
This news seems a bit bogus to me. These guys seem pretty high profile to take on these roles.
Especially Watts. Not only that but isn't it too much of a good thing that both Ralph Fiennes and Joeshp Fiennes are gonna play in these movies

Whatever the case , if this did in fact happen to be true iit be really awesome.

Narcissa is a relatively small role. I'm suprised Watts would agree. Then again, it seems to be becoming a rite of passage for English actors to be in these movies, regardless of how small the role is :cwink:

I'm sure Fiennes is playing the young Voldemort...and it is pretty damn cool that they got Ralph's brother for the role. Though kind of weird that they just didn't use the kid from COS for the older Voldie scenes. He would've been cheaper, and again, those scenes will last all of five minutes. (The only ones that Fiennes will work for is the meeting with Dumbledore and MAYBE the meeting with Hepzibah Smith).

As for Townsend...who knows? I guess the only open role that he fits is Bill Weasley. I gotta say, its gonna be odd when Ron gets an older brother out of no where who is suddenly engaged to Fleur.

Isn't it described in the books that Tom Riddle was still a kid /teen when he
killed his dad and framed someone else for the murder ?
.
I haven't reasd the books but i think i remember that on wikipedia
If so why would you need Joseph Fiennes as an adult

Also my guess is that Joseph Fiennes or Townsend would play the role of Tom Riddle's dad. They're described as very handsome

Yes, he did kill his father during the summer between his 5th and 6th year at Hogwarts, I believe. There are a couple scenes where they show an older Tom Riddle in HBP...but they are very short, and don't really justify such big named actors.

As for one of them playing Tom Riddle Sr...that is unlikely. The only time you see him in the book is in passing, other than that he is only mentioned.

Just to have the general info here's wiki''s page on Voldemort's youth :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Marvolo_Riddle#Tom_Marvolo_Riddle
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord_Voldemort#Birth_and_Adolescence

According to the established canon, Voldemort is born Tom Marvolo Riddle on a stormy night on December 31st, c.1926 within the refuge of a London orphanage. He is born to witch Merope Gaunt and Tom Riddle, a Muggle. It is hypothesized by Albus Dumbledore that Tom Riddle Sr., being an attractive young man with an implied love interest, was given continual doses of love potion by the less-than-attractive Merope, thus giving him an incentive to elope with her. Dumbledore further hypothesizes that Merope, being genuinely in love with her husband, "could not bear" to continue giving him the potion once she became pregnant, in the belief that he would not abandon her and his unborn son even without the aid of magic. Her belief was misplaced, as Tom Riddle Sr. returned to his home before the birth of his son, insisting that he was "hoodwinked" and "taken in" by Merope, the daughter of the village tramp (thus amplifying Dumbledore's suspicions that he was under the influence of a love potion). Abandoned and presumably heart broken, Merope died shortly after giving birth to her son in the orphanage where he ultimately grew up.[1] After living in an orphanage for eleven years, young Tom was tracked down by Albus Dumbledore, who knew of his magical abilities and offered him a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.[2] There, Riddle established himself as a brilliant student, but also showed himself to be a cruel, manipulative bully. He unlocked the mystery of the legendary Chamber of Secrets, freed a basilisk who killed a young student, Moaning Myrtle, and managed to frame the thirteen year old half-giant Rubeus Hagrid for it in his fifth year, during which he was also a prefect.[3] Soon after, he adopted the pseudonym "Lord Voldemort" by forming an anagram from his full name "Tom Marvolo Riddle", which rearranges into "I am Lord Voldemort". His close followers addressed him by the new name.[3] One summer before that of his sixth year, Riddle visited the home of his father in Little Hangleton, first visiting the old home of his maternal grandfather, mother and uncle, only the latter of whom, Morfin, he discovered, was still alive. It is postulated and generally accepted that Tom Riddle Jr. visited his uncle, stupefied him and stole his wand, and murdered the last Riddle line (his father and grandparents) with it, then modified Morfin's memory to make him believe that it was he who committed the crimes. Morfin was said to have later given a "full and boastful confession" and died in Azkaban, having been wrongfully convicted for the murders

Tom Marvolo Riddle, who would later become Lord Voldemort, was born on New Year's Eve, 1926 to Tom Riddle Sr and Merope Gaunt. Through his mother, he is the last descendant of the famous ancient wizard Salazar Slytherin. Through his father, he is a descendant of the Riddles of Little Hangleton, a muggle family. His mother, Merope, had used a love potion means to persuade the elder Riddle to marry her. Later on when Merope stopped feeding the potion to Riddle, she and her unborn child were abandoned by Riddle.

One New Year's Eve night, Merope wandered into an orphanage in London when she suspected she was about to enter labour. After giving birth, Merope asked the matron to name her son Tom, after his father, and Marvolo, after his maternal grandfather, Marvolo Gaunt, and died within the hour.

In 1942, the summer before his fifth year at Hogwarts (or, as Dumbledore phrased it, in the summer of his sixteenth year), Riddle returned to Little Hangleton, hoping to meet his maternal grandfather, Marvolo Gaunt, and confirm that he was a descendant of the Gaunts, and, through them, Slytherin. Instead, he met his uncle Morfin, learning of his grandfather's death and his father's non-magical nature. He stole an heirloom ring from Morfin, and, upon learning that his father was still alive and had abandoned his mother, murdered him as well as his father's Muggle parents. He framed Morfin for the murders by modifying his memory so that Morfin believed he was the murderer. Morfin confessed this to the Ministry of Magic, and was eventually found responsible by trial. Frank Bryce, the Riddles' gardener, fell under suspicion from the muggle police, as the door to the Riddle House had not been forced and Bryce was the only person with keys to the house. The cause of death could not be determined, however, due to the fact that the Killing Curse leaves the victim lifeless with no signs of any struggle, wound, or medical problem, and Bryce was released, though he was regarded with suspicion by the other villagers until his death in 1994 at the hand of Voldemort. In this way, two men were blamed for the Riddle murders and Riddle kept the Gaunts' ring and returned to Hogwarts for his fifth year.

I could see some higher profile actors taking on smaller roles for a Harry Potter movie, when you think about it, how much screen time have Emma Thompson, Ralph Fiennes and Jason Issacs really had? Probably 15-20 min max and they're all fairly big names. Plus they may take the role in hopes that their character has more time in the final book/movie.

True , but i think generally most of the cast do it because it's a british production . Say what you want about the brits but they are a proud folk and will participate in something that is 100 % brit.

Of course the money plays a role too :o
But then again nobody is playing his/her role on autopilot :yay: .

Also did anyone go further with the news reports on moviefine
They got the news from here : http://www.gryffindorgazette.com/20...rt-in-harry-potter-and-the-half-blood-prince/

And that site goes on with these rumblings :

UK free newspaper METRO print edition informed that actors Jack Davenport, Peter Rnic, Stephen Rea and Naomi Watts are in negotiations for different parts in the next Harry Potter movie, Half-Blood Prince, schedule to start shooting in September. It’s still unknown the roles they will play.

Shall we do some speculation here?

Naomi Watts will play Narcissa Malfoy, Draco’s mother and Lucius’s wife.

peter-rnic.png

Peter Rnic, either as Rufus Scrimgeour (takes over after Cornelius Fudge) or Horace Slughorn, new Potions professor after Snape takes the Defense Against the Dark Arts position.

Jack Davenport, who…I have no clue who he would play. Maybe Bill Weasley?

Lastly, Stephen Rea, who I think would be good in the Dark Arts position.

Jack Davenport? Who on earth could he be playing? They really do not fit into HBP at all. Davenport is far too old to be Bill Weasley. He is too skinny to be Slughorn. That makes me call these all into question.

Though I could see Peter Rnic as Marvolo Gaunt, I have no clue who Steven Rea could be.

These are too odd to be true.

Im thinking Davenport will play Fenrir the head werewolf.

Pssst Matt, she's Australian.:cwink:
Plus shes really, really pregnant right now, like ready to pop anyday.
It seems really soon for her to be taking on a new role, when does filming actually begin?

Filming begins in September, so she'd probably have enough time to "recover", plus if she does take the role of Naricssa it'll be small and she probably won't have to be there the first day of filming.

It begins in September and she could film her scenes in October.

I'm glad Yates is directing again, I think his second go round will be even better as he'll be more comfortable with a big movie production and character, but Kloves coming back as screenwriter scares me as he's notoriously left out important stuff in previous installments.

Watts was born in Shoreham, Kent, England, and lived there until the age of eight.

MAybe she's been living in australia but she's definately a brit :cwink:

Exactly. Not only that but i think that she wouldn't be required to long on the set.
Helena Bonham Carter didn't do much shooting either for OOTP. Probably only a few weeks or so.

production starts september so she can film any time between then and spring next year. The films aren't shoot in chronological order. Watts was born in britain and her family emigrated to australia so shes an honorary brit.

Hope Jack Davenports in it. He was awesome in coupling and it sucks what happened to his character Norrington in worlds end.

Well Ill be...you do learn something new everyday.:woot:

Well when i read the casting news initially i had the same reaction you had.
"no way Watts would be offered that role cause she's an aussie. "
That all changed once i clicked her page at IMDB :o

The thing we have to ask ourselves with this flick is , will they show the scenes from Voldemort's youth or not.
Narcissa HAS to be in this flick considering Snape's involvement at the end and Rowling has also said that Narcissa will again appear in the last book.
But Voldemort's youth....

I had expected OOTP to show (alot) of scenes of Snape's youth and how he was bullied by Harry's dad but it was a relative short scene in the movie.

Im thinking Davenport will play Fenrir the head werewolf.

I forgot all about Fenrir and pretty much just assumed he'd be cut from the movie (as he doesn't really serve a purpose in HBP other than being at the final battle). But man, Davenport would be awesome in the role!

Did you see the latest one matt, how is it? I liked the 4th one minus some off-beat characterizations and it being a little shallow, it's the only one that felt like an actual movie.

Haven't gotten to see it yet :csad:

I don't know if Fenrir Greyback will be in the films. The guy mutilates Bill weasley and I don't think WB are gonna show that.
